Emergency Response: Yes – Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE's emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.

Job Summary

Leads strategic planning and execution of transaction initiatives involving energy-related assets that support the company's growth objectives. Identifies, evaluates, negotiates, and recommends energy-related merger and acquisition opportunities. Conducts research, data analysis, and financial modeling and performs due diligence to ensure reliability of information provided for potential acquisition targets. Develops and presents recommendations to leadership. Leads internal and external teams throughout the transaction process and serves as subject matter expert. Oversees entire transaction process from evaluation to deal completion. Span of control: 0; individual contributor.

Key Accountabilities

• Researches and identifies merger and acquisition target opportunities that support the company's business development and growth objectives
• Leads financial and business due diligence process, including interviewing leadership, examining real estate assets, reviewing strategic operating plans and legal documents, and analyzing historical and projected financial and operating performance
• Develops complex, precise financial valuation models used to assess strategic acquisitions
• Conducts evaluations of new business transaction opportunities using corporate models and develops recommendations for presentation to leadership
• Delivers recommendations regarding transactions to leadership, including addressing risks, returns, strategic fit, and risk mitigation tactics
• Oversees all aspects of a transaction including term sheets, due diligence, definitive agreements, and pre and post-closing activities and serves as subject matter expert

 

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in business or economics from an accredited institution, with seven years of experience in merger and acquisition transactions, project finance, and/or data modeling
Other Qualifications

Preferred

  • Master's in Business Administration
  • Experience evaluating the financial and operating performance of utility assets
  • Experience performing valuation analyses

 

Other Requirements
• Ability to perform valuation analyses, including discounted cash flow analysis and other related financial modeling and impact analysis with keen attention to detail and high level of accuracy
• Ability to develop marketing materials, management presentations, and roadshow presentations for financial offerings or transactions
• Superior modeling proficiency, sound valuation knowledge, and strong financial discipline
• Ability to prepare, communicate and effectively deliver presentations regarding complex financial transactions to leadership
• Strong quantitative and technical abilities
• Strong communication, multi-tasking and time management skills
• Ability to work within a team-oriented environment in rapidly evolving markets
• Possesses drive, enthusiasm, creativity and excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to establish and maintain effective internal and external working relationships 
• Ability to efficiently prioritize tasks, remain organized and meet deadlines
