Position Concept
The Sr Accounting Specialist is responsible for the day to day operations of accounts payable and reconciliation functions. This position provides accounting support and information for managers, staff, and employees in the areas of accounts payable. 

Essential Functions

  • Prepares and processes accounts payable invoices and payments ensuring that coding, input and payment is timely and accurate. Ensures that filing is up to date and that approvals are obtained for expenditures from appropriate parties.
  • Ensures accurate input, proper expense accounting, and prompt payment and filing of paperwork.
  • Works with vendors to resolve disputes and ensure that services are not interrupted.
  • Researches issues with expense variances as part of monthly close cycle.
  • Explains Accounts Payable policies and procedures to others as necessary.
  • Maintains, updates and reconciles various logs, reports, ledgers, files, databases, and spreadsheets.
  • Provide guidance to Eckerd's programs in order to follow and strengthen accounting policies and processes. 
  • Take leadership role coordinating with Accounting Manager on trainings and development activities as needed for new accounting processes. 
  • Assists in the training of Accounting Specialist.
  • Assists Accounting Manager with auditors, preparation of annual 1099's, and any other accounting activities. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Duties Include, But Not Limited To

  • Participate in training and development activities as required.
  • Report any acts, incidents or conditions that reflect the possibility of inappropriate youth-to-youth or staff-to-youth relationships.
  • Report any use of physical force and all unusual incidents per Eckerd policy and state guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Specifications
Education:  High school diploma or equivalent required, with bookkeeping course preferable.
Experience: At least three years of experience in an accounting environment with data review and entry experience.
Skills: Typing, ten-key by touch, personal computer knowledge preferable. Communicate effectively with others.
Physical Demands: Requires sitting for approximately 2/3 of each day with periodic lifting/moving up to 25 pounds.
Other:  Appropriate and valid state driver's license. Must meet state criminal background check requirements.
Travel:  Must be able to meet requirements for Eckerd's Auto Insurance and be able to drive for business purposes.
