The Histology Lab at Englewood Health seeks a full-time, experienced Cytotechnologist to join it's talented team! The incumbent will work closely with Pathologists and other members of the Histology Lab and is responsible for processing and screening exfoliated cells from bodily fluids. Hours: M-F / 10:00am - 6:00pm (No Weekends)
Job Essentials:
- Screens GYN and Non-GYN and Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) cytology specimens.
- Prepares a final diagnosis on negative/normal gynecologic specimens.
- Enters all preliminary GYN and Non-GYN results in the system to be finalized by a pathologist.
- Attends Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology procedures in CT, Ultrasound and Endoscopy to determine specimen adequacy.
- Ensures all attended procedure specimens are labeled and ordered correctly.
- Maintains all supplies and stain control log for the mobile FNA cart.
- Performs and documents routine maintenance on microscopes and other laboratory equipment to ensure optimal instrument operation.
- Rescreen FNA slides from the Cytodiagnosis and Breast Care Center as well as outside institutions as requested by pathologists.
- Maintains cytology procedure manual and maintains CAP standards for cytology section.
- Prepares cytology and thin prep specimens on a STAT basis when required.
- Keeps statistical records of cytotechnologist workload.
- Maintains records and annual statistics for cytology specimens.
- Performs other duties as required by department.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in a Biological, Chemical or Clinical Laboratory Science.
- Graduate from an accredited School of Cytotechology and certified in Cytotechnology by an HHS approved agency (ASCP)
- Minimum one year experience preferred.
