  • Assume a strategic leadership role in the design, standardization, documentation and execution of business processes and financial controls. You will also have responsibility and authority for the integration of acquired businesses and conduct special projects as necessary. This position requires a seasoned finance professional with prior experience as a Business Unit (BU) Controller or in a similar capacity in a service, contract, or transportation businesses. You will provide financial guidance, ensure compliance, and drive profitability for First Student. The daily responsibilities of this position will be very fluid as you seek to drive Continuous Improvement.
  • Major Responsibilities
    • Process Design: Lead the assessment of finance and accounting operations at the regional level. Make recommendations for standardization that will drive accuracy and efficiency. Lead the implementation of standardized processes.
    • Business Integration: Responsible for leading the finance and accounting efforts to integrate newly acquired businesses to include valuation and opening balance sheet accounting.
    • Financial Controls: Develop and maintain documentation for the process and internal control framework over financial reporting. Ensure that the process meets internal control standards relevant to the Company.
    • Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to all local and international financial regulations, including taxation, audit, and reporting requirements.
    • Leadership: While this position does not have any direct reports, the incumbent will liaison directly with senior leadership across a multitude of functions in support of the objectives identified above as well as leading and influencing others in the finance and accounting group.
    • Strategic Partnerships: Collaborate cross-functional executives and related teams to support strategic initiatives and investments, leveraging your industry-specific knowledge specially in capital and technology investments.
    • Teamwork: Develop and maintain positive relationships both within the Corporate Accounting function and field FP&A operations to ensure a collaborative effort in driving change.
    • Continuous Improvement: Identify and drive process improvements and efficiency gains within the finance department, aligning with industry best practices. Focus on standardization and automation of existing processes.


    Minimum Education or Certifications Required
    • A minimum of fifteen years of relevant experience.
    • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; MBA or CPA preferred.


    Minimum Experience or Skills Required
    • Expert knowledge of financial regulations, accounting principles, and industry-specific best practices.
    • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to address industry-specific challenges.
    • Proven leadership and team management abilities.
    • Outstanding communication and presentation skills.
    • Proficiency in financial software such as JDE/Hyperion and Microsoft Office Suite.
