Now Hiring: Diesel Technician III – First Shift | $28–$31/hr | Guilford County Schools | Full-Time

Work Hours: Monday–Friday | 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM

First Student is actively hiring a highly skilled Diesel Technician III for our shop serving Guilford County Schools. If you're an experienced, career-driven technician ready to lead in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment, we want to hear from you.

As a Technician III, you'll take a lead role in ensuring the performance and safety of our fleet of iconic yellow school buses. Your expertise directly protects the students and families who rely on us every day.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Leading inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on diesel engines and vehicle systems (brakes, suspensions, drivetrains, and transmissions)

  • Executing scheduled maintenance and creating detailed work orders

  • Supporting mobile emergency services as needed

  • Serving as a technical resource for junior technicians

Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in diesel, automotive, electric, or CNG vehicle repair

  • Valid driver's license (CDL Class B with passenger and school bus endorsement required within 6 months—training provided)

  • Must obtain ASE Brake Certification within 6 months of hire

  • Complete mechanic's tool set

  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills

  • Willingness to grow through ASE certification and training

DOT Drug Testing Required: This is a safety-sensitive position subject to federal DOT regulations, including restrictions on Schedule I drug use (e.g., marijuana).
