About the Role
Are you a skilled technician ready to take your career to the next level? At First Student, we're looking for an experienced Technician III to join our maintenance team. You'll work independently on complex diagnostics and repairs for our fleet of school buses and vans—ensuring vehicles are safe, reliable, and up to FirstGroup's high standards.
This position offers an opportunity to lead by example, mentor junior techs, and even act as Shift Foreman when needed. If you're passionate about safety, take pride in your work, and want to grow with a company that values your expertise—this is the role for you.
$28.00/hour
What You'll DoPerform complex diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs with minimal supervision
Conduct brake inspections, engine tune-ups, suspension work, transmission clutch repairs, and more
Lead scheduled preventative maintenance (PMs), safety inspections, and annual service checks
Diagnose issues using advanced tools and software
Overhaul and reinstall mechanical components
Mentor Technician I and II team members as needed
Respond to road calls and provide emergency service
Maintain accurate records of repairs and parts used
Ensure a safe, clean, and organized shop environment
High school diploma or GED (vocational/technical training preferred)
5+ years of diesel or automotive repair experience (or equivalent education and experience)
Class B CDL with passenger endorsement (or ability to obtain within 3 months)
State Inspection License (if required)
6+ ASE Certifications preferred or willingness to participate in ASE testing
Strong diagnostic and mechanical skills
Familiarity with DOT motor vehicle standards
Ability to work independently and mentor others
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Basic computer proficiency
Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in various positions (crouching, lying down)
Comfortable working in a maintenance shop environment with dust, dirt, grease
Willingness to work in all weather conditions
