Work Shift:  06:00 AM - 02:30 PM - Sunday - Thursday 

General Purpose:

Repairs, modifications and preventative maintenance on building and facilities equipment, fixtures and systems.

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Inspects facilities, prioritizes necessary repairs, improvements and preventive maintenance; follows all safety rules and regulations to minimize risk and enhance the safety of employees and visitors; checks property and grounds for unsafe conditions, and clears hazards; reports safety conditions, security issues and illegal activities.
  • Trouble-shoots and perform diagnostics for repair of electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems.
  • Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled facilities maintenance, preventive maintenance, component replacement and repair tasks, including carpentry, mechanical, security systems and basic non-licensed electrical, plumbing; operates hand and power tools.
  • Works on assigned projects, and makes appropriate decisions based on work experience; duties will vary according to job assignment and individual skills; notifies supervisors of repair problems beyond the scope of authority.
  • Reads and interprets project work orders; identifies material and equipment needs, and organizes supplies and equipment; prepares written reports as required and documents the work performed.
  • Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; reports problems and emergency situations.
  • Cleans up spills and unsafe conditions in a timely manner and according to procedures.
  • Inspects and maintains assigned equipment and small tools for proper operating condition; completes minor repairs on equipment as needed.
  • Operates vehicles and equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; identifies and reports mechanical problems requiring additional repair.
  • Assists with setup and teardown for special events, and other tasks as directed.
  • Completes daily work log, incident and accident reports, and requisitions for supplies and materials.
  • Responds as directed to perform emergency cleaning and repair work as required.
  • Responds to service calls and in-house repairs throughout the facility.
  • Troubleshoots, responds to work orders, repairs systems and equipment.
  • Installs office fixtures and performs work in various maintenance trades including mechanical, electrical and plumbing.
  • Routine assignments include moving furniture, materials and equipment.
  • Conducts scheduled preventative maintenance and breaks down equipment for clean up.
  • Converses with equipment operators to ascertain problems with equipment before breakdown, and to determine if breakdown is due to human error or mechanical problems.
  • Tests faulty equipment and applies knowledge of functional operation of electronic units and systems to diagnose cause of malfunction.
  • Tests electronic components and circuits to locate defects.
  • Replaces defective components and wiring and adjusts mechanical parts.
  • Verifies proper usage of testing instruments.
  • Installs audio/visual equipment.
  • May maintain records of repairs, calibrations and tests.
  • Enters information into computer to copy program from one electronic component to another, or to draw, modify or to store schematics.
  • Oversees emergency system backup.
  • Ensures plumbing, sewer, water, electrical and mechanical systems are functional.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Pay Range (Applicable to Illinois) $33.08 USD - $45.49 USD Hourly Job Category Operations
