Description

Role Summary
The Director, Virtual Programs leads the strategy, development, and continuous improvement of Fusion's specialty virtual programs, including Global Guided, Self-Directed, and future offerings. Sitting at the intersection of program strategy, curriculum design, and virtual learning, this role shapes innovative academic models and high-quality, personalized learning experiences that meet the evolving needs of students and families.

Working across Curriculum & Analytics and with partners throughout FEG, the Director translates program strategy into scalable course experiences, guiding new virtual offerings from concept through design, development, launch, and ongoing refinement. This role combines strategic ownership with direct execution, requiring someone equally comfortable setting direction and doing the work to bring it to life through cross-functional partnerships. It is an opportunity to shape the future of virtual learning at Fusion, expanding access to distinctive learning experiences while maintaining the academic quality and personalization at the heart of the Fusion model.

Core Areas of Ownership

Virtual Program Strategy & Portfolio Roadmap
• Build and maintain the strategy and roadmap for Global Guided, Self-Directed, and other assigned specialty virtual offerings.
• Develop and document each program's target learners, purpose, level of support, pacing, delivery model, and differentiation from other Fusion options.
• Establish program-level direction and academic operating models while balancing student needs, academic quality, scalability, capacity, and organizational priorities.
• Recommend which programs to develop, pilot, scale, improve, reposition, or retire based on needs and evidence.
• Identify portfolio opportunities, risks, gaps, and dependencies, and clarify program-level decision rights with department managers and partner teams.
• Ensure specialty virtual programs are clearly differentiated from Fusion's core 1:1 product while maintaining Fusion's commitment to academic quality and personalized learning.

Virtual Learning Model & Course Experience
• Define and improve each program's academic model, student journey, and instructional support structure.
• Establish expectations for pacing, delivery, independent learning, assessment, feedback, accessibility, and course experience.
• Set standards for effective asynchronous learning, including content sequencing, independent navigation, engagement, timely support, and demonstration of mastery.
• Create and refine course requirements, templates, quality standards, and development priorities that translate program models into practice.
• Collaborate with department managers to maintain subject-area standards, academic integrity, and curriculum quality while aligning shared program requirements.
• Collaborate with Curriculum & Analytics and the Systems team to define learning technology requirements, guide Canvas capabilities, and ensure technology decisions support the academic model and student experience.
• Prioritize virtual-course development, redesign, quality review, and maintenance; evaluate learning technologies, including AI enabled tools, that could strengthen student learning and support.

Cross-Functional Academic Leadership & Program Launch
• Serve as the Curriculum & Analytics lead for the integrated academic design, launch readiness, and ongoing performance of specialty virtual programs.
• Translate portfolio strategy into academic requirements, priorities, milestones, timelines, and clear cross-functional decisions.
• Align partners across Curriculum & Analytics, Teaching & Learning, Fusion Global Academy, Systems, Operations,
Admissions/Sales, Marketing, Regional Success, and other teams supporting virtual programs.
• Drive the day-to-day academic work required for pilots, implementation, launch, adoption, and post-launch improvement, including tracking deliverables, resolving issues, and managing handoffs.
• Address cross-functional dependencies and implementation barriers; escalate decisions requiring broader leadership input.
• Keep stakeholders informed about readiness, risks, open decisions, and program implications; use feedback from campus-facing teams to improve implementation and the learner experience.

Program Performance & Continuous Improvement
• Define measures of success across student outcomes, experience, engagement, progress, completion, mastery, academic quality, and implementation.
• Partner with Analytics and operational teams to establish reliable program measures and feedback loops.
• Conduct regular portfolio, program, and course reviews, analyzing performance data and identifying specific actions to address trends, risks, and gaps.
• Use student, educator, department, and operational feedback to distinguish course-level issues from broader program-model
needs.
• Evaluate pilots and major changes against intended outcomes and prioritize improvements based on evidence, impact, strategic
value, and feasibility.
• Communicate performance, decisions, and recommendations to leaders and contributing teams; update the roadmap and recommend when offerings should expand, change, or retire.
• Partner with Admissions, Sales, Marketing, and operational teams to review enrollment trends, market demand, and family feedback, using these insights to inform program positioning, development priorities, and opportunities for growth.

Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in education, curriculum and instruction, instructional design, educational technology, business, product management, or a related field preferred.
• 7+ years of progressive experience in education, virtual learning, product or program leadership, curriculum, educational innovation, or a related field, including leadership of complex work from strategy through implementation.
• Experience shaping the strategy, roadmap, launch, and ongoing performance of an educational product, program, portfolio, or learning model.
• Demonstrated experience designing, launching, scaling, or substantially improving virtual or asynchronous learning experiences.
• Strong understanding of asynchronous learning and course design, including pacing, student independence, instructional support, assessment, feedback, accessibility, engagement, and mastery.
• Ability to translate program and instructional models into clear requirements, course structures, quality standards, priorities, and actionable implementation plans.
• Experience using a learning management system; significant Canvas experience strongly preferred.
• Ability to interpret learner data, program results, research, market insights, and qualitative feedback to guide decisions and continuous improvement.
• Strong strategic judgment, cross-functional leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills; ability to influence without direct authority and balance quality, student needs, scalability, and feasibility.

Success in This Role
• Fusion's specialty virtual offerings have clear purposes, target learners, differentiated models, and an actionable roadmap.
• Program requirements, decision rights, and responsibilities are clear across department managers and partner teams.
• Programs move from concept through launch with academic quality, operational readiness, and sustainable ownership.
• Program performance is visible, regularly reviewed, and used to drive evidence-based improvement.
• Specialty virtual programs contribute to organizational enrollment and growth goals through differentiated offerings, market
responsiveness, and strong cross-functional partnership with Admissions, Sales, Marketing, and Operations.
• The specialty virtual-program portfolio expands access while maintaining the quality, integrity, and personalization associated
with the Fusion experience.
