The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) is a professional, registered nurse who is a skilled communicator, collaborator and authentic leader. The ANM supports the organization in the execution of the nursing strategic plan and priorities. The ANM actively participates in unit and hospital decision-making and provides meaningful recognition to others. The ANM provides operational and administrative support to Nurse leadership. This position effectively coordinates staffing, supports throughput, quality and safety outcomes, staff competency, hiring, clinical and staff corrective actions, unit efficiency, quality care and other departmental activities to support the mission, vision and values of Hackensack Meridian Health. The ANM, in collaboration with the Nurse Manager, assesses, plans, implements, monitors and evaluates nursing practice and the nursing care delivery system with direct supervision of front-line staff.

A day in the life of a Assistant Nurse Manager at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Delivery of nursing practices according to the evidence-based research, nursing policies, and standards of care, to provide and ensure safe and excellent delivery of individualized patient centered care.
  • Ongoing communication with patients, nursing colleagues and other members of the health care team regarding patient's status, rendered care, education and treatment plans.
  • Responsible for optimal patient/guest satisfaction and care experience according to Meridian Health standards.
  • Medication administration and titration utilizing the latest clinical documentation technology designed to ensure the safest delivery of medications to our patients.
  • Patient and family centered care aimed at optimizing health, wellness, disease management and end of life care.
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration in management of our patient's plan of care and goals from admission to discharge to ensure safe transitioning and continuum of care.
  • The Assistant Nurse Manager facilities the operations of the unit, oversees scheduling, payroll, budget needs. Flexible to accommodate the needs of the unit including but not limited to taking a patient assignment.
  • S/He is responsible for all tasks delegated by the Nurse Manager including but not limited to patient assignment, disciplinary actions, education, mentoring, scheduling and budget and all other assignments as deemed necessary and appropriate.
  • The ANM is responsible for filling in for the NM in the managers' absence, understanding scheduling, budget allocations, hospital and regulatory policies and procedures
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
  • NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License required
  • Minimum 2 years recent nursing experience in respective specialty or equivalent
  • AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification required
  • National Certification acceptable to the Magnet Recognition Program and appropriate to your current specialty (within two years of hire).
  • The ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing patient needs, a strong sense of accountability for improving the lives of our patients and their caregivers, an exceptional focus on teamwork, dedication to ongoing education and the ability and passion to deliver the highest quality of care based on a strong sense of patient focus are all required
  • MSN preferred
  • Supervisory or charge nurse experience preferred
