Description

The DC Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Coordinator – Supply Chain provides technical and tactical support of the Environmental, Health, and Safety program within the distribution centers. This role works closely with others within the Operations team, Human Resources, Environmental, Risk Management and Legal departments, and helps manage, develop and implement the IIPP/Safety Programs within the distribution center. The EHS Coordinator is the associate's safety partner and will strive to inspire the employee's commitment to complying with company safety standards and maintaining a safe work environment.  The EHS Coordinator reports directly to the DC EHS Manager. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a safety representative for the supply chain assisting the DC EHS Manager in coordinating and implementing all areas of Harbor Freight Tools safety programs;
  • Participate and help facilitate Distribution Center Safety Committees;
  • Participate in the development, implementation, monitoring and optimization of safety, health, and hazardous materials and waste policies, practices, and procedures throughout the supply chain facilities in compliance with governmental regulations including Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations;
  • Conduct regular audits of the supply chain operations, including facilities, machinery, and safety equipment, to identify and remediate potential compliance issues, safety risks, and other opportunities for better safety practices and coach associates about better safety practices.
  • Ensure compliance with safety programs and applicable federal, state and local laws.
  • Assist with conducting risk assessments related to jobs performed (Job Hazard Analysis) and new equipment introductions. Recommend appropriate risk mitigation measures to management, including ergonomic considerations.
  • Assist the DC EHS Manager in developing, implementing and monitoring Safety policies, procedures, claims reporting forms, procedures and activities. Assist with maintaining OSHA injury and illness records.
  • Conduct or coordinate associate training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment;
  • Assist with response to injuries and incidents/ handle claims- nurse line, clinic visits etc.
  • Performs special projects, as assigned by the DC EHS Manager
  • Regular attendance on site is an essential responsibility
  • Additional duties as assigned by manager

  • Organizational Scope – DC EHS Coordinator works with various departments. Position reports directly to the DC EHS Manager
  • Decision Making and Confidential Information – Ability to coordinate multiple projects at one time, think ahead to potential obstacles, and seek assistance to minimize those obstacles. Ability to maintain and not inappropriately share highly confidential information
  • Equipment Used – Laptop PC, Telephone, Smart Phone, CCTV camera systems, fire alarm systems
  • Travel – 10% domestic travel


Requirements

Education and Experience (Required)
  • High School Diploma/GED equivalent required
  • 1+ years of experience performing safety related duties
  • 30-hour OSHA certification preferred (must obtain OSHA 10 certification within 1 month of employment)
Skills (Required)
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations as well as other regulatory standards
  • Ability to analyze accident data, new processes, and machinery for potential safety concerns and conduct job hazard and job safety analyses.
  • Strong time management skills
  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to create PowerPoint presentations, participate in meetings, and conduct trainings
  • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple projects
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively present information to management
  • Ability to work with minimal direction on a daily basis providing quality reports, analysis and policies in Safety
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability interact and communicate with all levels of associates (management and staff) and with local
  • emergency response groups and regulatory agencies
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality in matters involving security and/or personnel issues
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Safety and Physical Requirements
General office environment requiring ability to:
  • stand, walk, sit for extended periods of time
  • speak and listen to others in person and over the phone
  • use keyboard and read from computer screen and reports
  • lift up to 30 lbs
  • Must be able to perform this job safely in accordance with standard operating procedures and good manufacturing practices, without endangering the health or safety of self or others.

The anticipated rate for this position is $26.00-$28.60 per hour depending on location, knowledge, skills, education and experience. In addition, we offer comprehensive and competitive benefits to Associates (and their families) such as early access to pay, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability. Eligible Associates are able to enroll in our company's 401k plan.   Associates will accrue paid time off up to 152 hours per year (inclusive of PTO, floating holidays, and paid holidays). Paid sick time up to 64 hours per year unless otherwise required by law.
