Description
The Employee Relations Specialist Senior supports Field, Corporate and Distribution partners with daily employee relations related activities as needed, provides subject matter expertise and independently conducts workplace investigations. The Employee Relations Specialist Senior is instrumental in conducting investigations on highly sensitive and complex employee relations issues, advising on policy interpretation and application, and providing guidance on employment matters where heightened risk and conflict are involved. Will support the development of the Employee Relations Specialist I and Employee Relations Specialist II through mentorship and training. Conducts research on assigned topics or projects, provide reports and analysis as requested by senior leadership.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Complete daily employee relations related activities on an as needed basis (i.e. Attendance Policy violations, background checks, exit interviews, fitness for duty calls, cash over-short violations and shoplifting prevention violations)
- Conduct thorough investigations of varying levels of complexities across multiple jurisdictions with minimal oversight
- Develop and maintain thorough and high-quality case documents for investigations and employee relations work, including, but not limited to investigation notes, summaries, timelines, reports, letters, corrective action documents and warnings
- Participate in the development and implementation of processes, documents and trainings that help mitigate business risk and proactively support and maintain a positive employment climate
- Track, log and analyze employee relations related information and data; create insights from data to diagnose, design, and revise people programs, policies, and practices
- Lead or support internal projects to test and implement or create policies, improve processes and procedures and other employee relations initiatives as needed
- Partner with Legal, HRBPs, and other functional partners to recommend revisions to programs, policies, and procedures to maintain a fair and respectful workplace
- Provide employee relations support to Field HR Partners where needed and manage cases in partnership with other areas of the business (Sr. Regional HR Generalist, HRBP, Risk Management, Security)
- Assist with the mentorship and training of Employee Relations Specialists I and Employee Relations Specialists II
- Build, analyze, and maintain employee relations metrics and provide reporting on a monthly and quarterly basis including, but not limited to, exit interview data and investigation statistics

Requirements
Education and Experience
Education Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Communications, Business or related field
- SHRM-CP/SCP or PHR/SPHR preferred
Years of Experience
- Minimum 4 years direct experience independently leading workplace investigations or advising on complex employee relations issues (or Master's degree in a similar discipline with minimum 3 years of related work experience)
- 4 years' experience in the specialty areas of HR Service Center, Drug Free Workplace, Compliance, Performance Management, ADA/LOA
- Minimum 1 years' experience in reporting; manipulating large data sets and interpreting trends
Skills
- In-depth knowledge and application of State and Federal employment laws applicable to all areas of Human Resources; ability to apply employment law principles while conducting/advising on investigations of highly sensitive and nuanced workplace issues
- Familiarity with HR systems, such as HRIS, HR Reporting and Case Management software
- Bilingual English/Spanish highly preferred
- Retail or service experience beneficial
- Knowledge of Human Resources philosophies, principles, and practices

General office environment requiring ability to:
