Description

The primary functions of this role are planning, coordinating, implementing, and monitoring health, safety and environmental policies and programs to analyze and control conditions contributing to occupational and environmental hazards.

The EH&S Manager provides an interface with all departments as required for environmental, health, and safety policies, regulations, and programs. This position also involves very close liaison with, and support and coordination of, OSHA, EPA, and federal, state and local guidelines and requirements.

  • Promotes health, safety and environmental regulations by ensuring that Work Instructions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) are adhered to in compliance with corporate, federal, state, and local requirements
  • Develops, provides, and/or recommends safety programs, procedures and associated training such as but not limited to: Emergency Action Plans, Powered Industrial Trucks (forklifts), Personal Protective Equipment, Machine Guarding, Hazardous Material Communications; Lockout-Tagout, Confined Spaces, Respiratory Protection, First Aid, CPR, Blood-borne Pathogens, Portable Fire Extinguishers, etc.
  • Provides technical guidance to plant management and all other HDT personnel as it relates to environmental, health, and safety within the facilities
  • Recommends and purchases equipment, devices, and programs designed to reduce or eliminate employee and environmental hazards
  • Knowledge of Title V Air Emissions documentation and reporting procedures
  • Knowledge of Large Quantity Generator Status (Hazardous Waste)
  • Coordinates the collection of data and prepares reports required at federal, state and local levels. Examples include Storm water, Wastewater, Air Permits and OSHA logs
  • Act as a professional liaison with regards to government agency inspections concerning safety, environmental, or ergonomic issues
  • Oversees and/or facilitates incident investigations, root cause analysis, and closure of corrective actions
  • Manage Worker's Compensation claims by investigating the circumstances of the claimed injury objectively, while minimizing costs and fraud. Acts to prevent reoccurrence
  • Develops and maintains local metrics to support and drive safety performance
  • Participate in the identification and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives
  • Supports corporate/plant engineering to implement engineering controls to minimize safety and occupational health
  • Participates in new product/process reviews, including hazard analyses, operator training,
  • Maintains working knowledge of new developments in the industry and government regulations pertaining to environmental, safety, and health issues
  • Adheres to all quality and safety standards
  • Supports other projects and performs duties as assigned

Education/Experience/Other Skills & Abilities:

Bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health, environmental science, or related subject, minimum of 5 years of EH&S experience in a manufacturing environment required; experience in developing and administering Safety & Health programs; experience in managing worker's compensation claims, claims analysis, and cost reduction. Recent RCRA/DOT/HAZWOPER certification.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with employees and managers at all levels within the company; ability to effectively communicate with external auditors and government agencies; ability to prioritize and multitask; strong organizational skills and attention to detail; excellent skills in written and oral communication; ability to set/meet goals; initiative and problem-solving skills; demonstrated proficiency in standard business software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office).
