The Quality Engineer develops and supports product quality system improvements and leads efforts to develop, maintain and deploy quality plans and activities that translate customer requirements into planned activities. This position plans and directs activities concerned with development, application and maintenance of quality standards by providing technical support, related to corrective actions, process control, statistical analysis, customer complaints, component validation, product measurement and testing, product launch, certification and audits.
This position will ensure implementation of robust root cause and corrective actions (RCCA) process, to assist HDT and its suppliers in the proper planning, defining of problem statement, containment, and root cause analysis that goes beyond but is not limited to “5 Why” to include options for Cause-and-Effect Diagrams, Fault Tree Diagrams, etc. Supporting effective long term corrective actions for noted nonconformances with detailed timelines.
Essential Duties:
- Programmatic Quality Engineering work on large system development programs
- IPT (Integrated product team) participation
- In conjunction with engineering, manufacturing engineering and manufacturing personnel, develops and implements control processes and programs
- Develops quality plans and documentation requirements, to evaluate product at every state of the manufacturing process
- Coordinates and prepares First Article Inspections
- In conjunction with engineering, develops inspection and testing methods, and interprets industry and customer product CTQ requirements
- Conducts internal and external quality audits in accordance with internal procedures and ISO9001 and AS9100 standards
- Participates in the nonconforming material process and performs root cause corrective action (RCCA) analysis
- Conducts training sessions on quality control activities
- Ensures compliance with internal and external specifications and standards such as work instructions, drawings, Military specifications, Industry specifications, AS9100 which adds specific requirements for the aerospace sector, including risk management, configuration control, and product safety.
- Aids in the issuance of Corrective Actions both internally and externally
- Supports, communicates, reinforces and defends the mission, values and culture of the organization
- Adheres to all quality and safety standards
- Any prior experience associated to weld analysis and compliance to AWS D1.1 and AWS D17.1 is a plus
- Any prior experience of military paint systems, paint preparation, and required testing is beneficial
Education/Experience/Other Skills & Abilities:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Quality related fields; ASQ, CQE or CQT certification desired
- Defense, Aerospace or Automotive experience, SAP, Six-Sigma are a plus
- Seven (7) plus years of experience in Quality or Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering related fields
- Knowledge of inspection and control methods, techniques and documentation
- Knowledge of SPC or statistical control
- Knowledge of AS9100 / ISO Quality Management Systems
- Knowledge of military specifications is preferred
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Experience in ERP systems, SAP desired
- Experience with CMMs, Laser trackers, and XYZ coordinate systems desired
- Possesses strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with employees and managers at all levels within the company
- Possesses strong computer skills and demonstrated proficiency in standard business software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office, including Access)
