Description
The Hobby Lobby Buyers Department is seeking to recruit, train, and develop top collegiate talent into well-rounded merchandising interns who will get the opportunity to learn company operations in a corporate environment. This is a paid summer internship lasting approximately nine-weeks, dependent on academic requirements, at twenty hours per week on a Monday through Friday work schedule.
During the internship experience, the Buying Intern is assigned a training manager within the Buying Resources Department and takes on meaningful work assignments while making tangible contributions to the organization's success. This program provides opportunity for on-the-job training, cross-functional departmental exposure, and an end-of-program project presentation.
The goal of the Buying Intern is to gain insight into Hobby Lobby's purchasing world which will include purchasing, compliance, business systems, and assortment allocation strategies. With this, the Buying Intern will learn how these align to meet financial expectations and how to utilize current systems for the allocation and distribution of products.
The program includes
- Orientation
- In-store experience by working alongside a member of store management
- Participation in internal meetings with merchandising teams and vendors
- Opportunity to utilize analytical skills to make data-driven decisions to correctly manage and allocate inventory
- Discussion in business by utilizing various reporting tools to react to store inventory concerns, trends, and opportunities
- Exposure to senior leadership
- Monday to Friday, 8:00am-12:00pm on-site schedule dependent on academic requirements
Requirements
Hobby Lobby is looking for candidates who possess
- Curiosity and desire to learn about consumer and retail trends, including customer demographics, purchasing influencers, and emerging technology
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment
- Interest and confidence in working with data and numbers; strong mathematical/quantitative skills highly preferred
- Leadership skills and ability to independently make data-driven recommendations
- Dynamic written and verbal communication style to read and write reports, as well as communicate cross-functionally and vertically throughout the organization
- Reside in the Oklahoma City, OK, area for the duration of the internship
- Have a GPA of 3.25 or higher
- Have a graduation date between Fall 2025 and Fall 2026
- Major in management, finance, accounting, supply chain, marketing, or other related business or retail majors
- Are proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
