CAD Technician - Kentwood, MI

Our automotive, battery and energy storage, and related transportation industry testing and certification expertise is recognized by leading manufacturers worldwide for evaluating how their products and services meet and exceed quality, safety, sustainability and performance standards.This position is responsible for creating 3D designs, detailed design documentation using various CAD software tools and may perform tasks associated with the collection and processing of dimensional information from vehicles using a Laser Scanning Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM).

What you'll do:

  • Create 3D designs, fabrication drawings and metrology reports, using vehicle measurement data, for the purpose of building fixtures to hold automobile lighting parts
  • Develop prototype designs using 3D printer and related software
  • May perform tasks that use various computer software programs, such as Geomagic and SolidWorks, to gather precise three dimensional information for vehicle exterior lighting which is then used to determine correct lamp orientation 
  • May be responsible for fitting lighting systems on vehicles and evaluating lamp functionality 
  • May perform tasks that use calibrated measurement tools such as oscilloscopes and digital meters to gather vehicle lighting system voltages 
  • May be responsible for transport of vehicles and/or part pickups to & from lab

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED. 
  • Minimum of two (2) years work experience or educational training as a CAD Designer
  • Experience using SolidWorks, Geomagic Design and CatalystEX Dimension software packages
  • Experience using calipers, micrometers, and other measuring devices
  • Microsoft Office knowledge, including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to lift and carry samples, parts and/or equipment up to 49 pounds
  • Be aware of, and adhere to, safety practices and policies to ensure your own safety, as well as the safety of others who may be affected by your actions at work
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, multi-tasking environment with shifting priorities and demanding deadlines
  • Must be detailed-oriented and able to effectively prioritize and organize workload, with efficient time management 
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively in verbal written and presentation formats

Preferred Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Associates degree preferred
  • Valid drivers license
