Environmental Staff Scientist

PSI, an Intertek company, is searching for a Staff Scientist to join our Building & Construction team in our Tampa, Florida office.  This is a fantastic opportunity to grow a versatile career in the environmental, engineering, and construction industry!  The Staff Scientist will support the Building and Construction business by conducting Environmental Consulting work in the Tampa Bay Region. 

The Building & Construction team provides assurance, testing, inspection, and certification services and building science solutions to deliver Total Quality Assurance to the built environment. The team offers the environmental, engineering and construction industry with a full suite of capabilities both in the lab and on site.

What you'll do:

  • Perform field sampling of soil, groundwater, and other media as part of site assessment and remediation activities on projects with petroleum, metals, solvents, and other common contaminants.
  • Perform remediation system operations & maintenance (O&M) activities, which typically includes collection of groundwater and air samples under various conditions (vacuum, pressure, ambient, etc.)
  • Perform Field Documentation / Report Preparation
  • Maintain Training Records / Field Instrumentation / Certifications (will provide training updates)
  • Coordinate Project Data / Records / Reports related to the work assignments
  • Participate in all QA/QC programs as appropriate and Safety Programs
  • Perform other non-typical assignments upon availability as assigned by management
  • Perform Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs)

What it takes to be successful in this role:

  • AS Degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Biology, Chemistry or some Physical Science required
    • BS in Enviro Science, Geology, etc. preferred. 
  • 1 + years of previous experience in environmental consulting (soil and groundwater assessments), asbestos, lead-based paint, and mold inspecting, sampling, and remediation (required)
  • Electrical and mechanical knowledge of equipment and systems used for environmental remediation and consulting - preferred
  • Knowledge of IH and practical environmental concepts, principles, and practices - preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (required)
  • Must be able to work off shifts and overtime
  • Valid Driver's License and reliable driving record (required)
  • Must be able to lift items with weights in excess of 40 pounds multiple times as needed to complete project requirements
