What are we looking for?

The IT Systems Engineer is responsible for maintaining and managing the Laboratory and Analytical (LAB) computers, servers and networking equipment and associated software and systems in operating condition. 

Shift/Schedule: 1st shift 40 hour

Salary & Benefits Information

The base wage or salary range for this position is $65,000-$75,000. Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.

What you'll do:

  • Provides hands-on support for computer systems, servers and desktop management, software deployment, systems administration, data integrity and system recovery.
  • Provides PC hardware/software support for computers (i.e. add memory, replace hard drives/SSD, replace power supplies, installation of software).
  • Implements new servers in a test and production environment.
  • Maintains all operating system, hardware and software configurations for servers and computers.
  • Maintains an inventory of all computer systems and IT hardware and equipment in the laboratory and update as needed.
  • Adheres to corporate IT standards for systems and IT processes, such as change management.
  • Works with regional and global engineering teams for site specific IT infrastructure support (LAN, WAN).
  • Manage the Windows Active Directory laboratory domain.
  • Maintain server and laboratory computer system backups.
  • Maintain awareness of all device revisions/bugs/recommendations in the production environment through consistent contact with vendors and/or web notifications.
  • Supports the design, installation, configuration, documentation, and maintenance of the network and systems infrastructure.
  • Monitor network connections and application servers for capacity, utilization, and performance; troubleshoot as required.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve computer and network issues and open corporate IT help desk tickets as required.
  • Participates in efforts to evaluate and introduce innovative technologies and system solutions.
  • Produce utilization reports and performs capacity planning for network and systems infrastructure.
  • Participates in the disaster recovery planning design and recovery of systems.
  • Prepares professional written technical and process documentation for installed technologies.
  • Analyse the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems; develop recommendations for improving or further leveraging these systems.
  • Maintains network security through internal individual and group access protection.
  • Troubleshoot network infrastructure problems.
  • Provide technical sales assistance as required.
  • Document change control of system changes, upgrades, repairs, and services related to regulatory compliance.
  • Obtains price quotes for hardware and software as requested by management.
  • Create custom applications (databases, spreadsheets, documents, etc) under direction of management.
  • Support projects including data migration, security set-up and software configuration.
  • Write, revise, and review AP/SOP related to job function.
  • Familiar with a wide variety of computer and networking concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Works under general supervision.
  • Stays current on industry and technology changes and trends.
  • Primary job functions require a wide degree of independence and judgement.
  • Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience supporting desktop operating systems (Windows XP, 10, 11).
  • Experience supporting Microsoft Server products (Windows Server 2012, 2019, 2022).
  • Experience with configuring and managing DNS, DHCP, Active Directory.
  • Experience with Oracle Database Administration (maintenance, backup).
  • Knowledge of networking terminology, networking topologies and network wiring systems.
  • Understanding of computer security terminology.
  • Working knowledge of backup/restore solutions for computer systems and servers.
  • Staying current on industry and technology changes and trends.
  • Ability to communicate in English effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from various levels of management and users.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • A collaborator, able to collaborate with peers on tasks and projects.
  • Ability to work onsite at the Champaign, IL location 100% of the time.

Preferred Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Prefer an Associates or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or the equivalent in terms of education, experience, and training.
  • At least 5+ years of experience in computer and IT related experience.
  • Certified Systems Engineer or other technical certification such as CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, CCNA or MCSE preferred but not required.
  • Experience working in a laboratory environment a plus but not required.
  • Experience working with Shimadzu or Agilent laboratory equipment a plus but not required.
