What are we looking for?
Under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor, the Laboratory Technician is responsible for processing client samples through the laboratory from sample preparation and analysis through to the recording of analytical results and preparing reports to ensure compliance with Intertek operating procedures, ISO17025 standard and Client requirements in a timely and efficient manner.
Shift/Schedule: 12 hour rotating shifts

What you'll do:
Ensure all sampling, testing, and analytical activities are conducted safely, accurately, and in accordance with established quality standards
Participate in daily pre-start meetings, shift handovers, safety meetings, and other required operational communications
Prepare samples using approved digestion and dissolution methods in accordance with laboratory work instructions and test methods, utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
Undertake sample analysis in accordance with documented Intertek laboratory procedures, demonstrating the ability to work independently and without direct supervision once deemed competent
Effectively manage workload by multitasking and self-managing multiple jobs to maximize time utilization and meet operational priorities
Operate laboratory equipment, including sample preparation equipment, in accordance with training and safe work procedures
Complete work in a timely manner in line with priorities set by the Lab Supervisor or Lab Manager, including sample receipt, preparation, analysis, and instrumentation duties.
Perform routine laboratory housekeeping and weekly maintenance tasks involving reasonable manual handling to maintain a clean, organized, and contamination-free work environment, including work surfaces, safety cabinets, and equipment.
Maintain accurate records by completing laboratory worksheets and updating Excel spreadsheets and other required systems in accordance with laboratory procedures.
Adhere to work deadlines and quality requirements as directed by the Lab Supervisor or Lab Manager
Provide quality control support to colleagues and escalate non-conformances in accordance with laboratory procedures
Ensure quality records for the work area are updated daily and maintained in accordance with the laboratory quality management system and ISO 17025 best practice
Provide technical support within the scope of individual training, competency, and authorization when required
Comply with all applicable work instructions, work procedures, safe work procedures, safe work instructions, and lawful directions provided by the supervisor, whether written or verbal
Participate in risk management activities, including the completion of risk assessments and hazard controls

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:
Ability to safely perform manual handling tasks, including standing for extended periods and regularly lifting items weighing approximately 50 pounds, in accordance with safe work practices
Effective verbal and written communication skills suitable for a laboratory and production environment
Ability to work independently once trained, while managing a fluctuating workload and changing priorities
Capacity to work effectively in a fast-paced operational environment while maintaining safety and quality standards
Strong practical problem-solving skills with sound mechanical aptitude relevant to sample preparation equipment
Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team to support operational and production requirements
Valid driver's license and reliable driving record is required
Preferred Requirements & Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree preferred
- Two years of experience working in a Gold or Base Metals laboratory
