Manager (Staff Scientist), Packaging and Food Contact  – Remote

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the notifications process of new food contact substances according to global regulatory requirements such as US FDA, EU EFSA, China, etc.
  • Author food contact notifications or petitions for submission to global regulatory authorities.
  • Communicate with global regulatory authorities regarding food contact submissions.
  • Develop regulatory strategies for obtaining compliance by interpreting existing regulations and understanding the information required to complete food contact assessments globally.
  • Act as project manager for food contact notification projects from the initiation to completion.
  • Manage project expectations with clients and communicate the food contact submission process with relevant stakeholders.
  • Participating in conference calls with clients to understand deliverables and project timelines.
  • Conducting food contact compliance reviews of complex food packaging products.
  • Review and provide feedback on peer-authored reports.
  • Developing analytical testing protocols to obtain appropriate test data to support regulatory compliance reviews and notification submissions.
  • Ongoing communication with internal analytical labs to ensure testing is completed accurately and promptly.
  • Staying up to date with the dynamic food contact regulations. 
  • Collaborate with internal toxicologists to support food contact notification submissions and compliance projects.
  • Perform dietary exposure calculations.

 

 Qualifications:

  • Advanced Degree - PhD or MS Degree in a scientific discipline or equivalent; Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or Polymer Science background preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in packaging and global food contact regulations preferred but not required.
  • Experience in managing or supporting notifications for food contact is preferred but not required.
  • Understanding of global food contact regulations, Food Contact Notifications, and FDA No Objection Letter Submission Processes; preferred but not required
  • Experience within the Packaging Industry or relevant trade organizations.
  • Experience understanding and interpreting analytical chemistry data and reports.
  • Experience communicating with analytical testing laboratories to support food contact notification and compliance projects.
  • Extremely beneficial: Experience in communicating with laboratories and the FDA. 

 Requirements 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to listen effectively. Ability to author high-quality accurate project reports and proposals. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to deliver high-level presentations to relevant stakeholders. 
  • Ability to communicate highly technical topics to a broad range of stakeholders who may or may not have a technical background.
  • Ability to promote an effective working relationship at all levels and create a positive work environment, including the ability to collaborate with others in a team-based project environment. 
  • Ability to know when, to whom, and how to influence projects and personnel to facilitate business growth. 
  • Must be able to manage effectively in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities. 
  • Project management knowledge and skills
  • Ability to prioritize work and deliver results. 
  • Microsoft Office knowledge required (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
