PROJECT ENGINEER - EVALUATION SERVICES

Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions to many of the world's top-recognized brands and companies, is actively seeking a Project Engineer to join our Building & Construction Evaluation Services team in our  Middleton, WI office.   
The Building & Construction team provides assurance, testing, inspection, and certification services and building science solutions to deliver Total Quality Assurance to the built environment. The team offers the architectural, engineering and construction (A/E/C) industry with a full suite of capabilities both in the lab and on site.

JOB SUMMARY
The Project Engineer is responsible for for all aspects of code compliance evaluations and supporting clients through all stages of product development, testing, and certification. The Project Engineer manages assigned projects from product sampling and witness manufacturing through creating final certification documentation within client budgeted timelines. 

REPORTING STRUCTURE
This position reports to Regional Evaluation Services Manager

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Conduct in-depth research on North American building codes and relevant product standards
  • Develop comprehensive test plans based on research findings
  • Actively participate in standards development organizations and building code hearings
  • Engage with technical associations and stay current with industry trends
  • Take full ownership of assigned projects, including:
  1. Collaborating with the Sales team to develop accurate project quotations
  2. Communicating with clients regarding building code requirements, test planning, procedures, results, and final reports
  3. Coordinating product testing and inspection activities, including scheduling personnel and equipment
  4. Reviewing contract requirements thoroughly; documenting deviations and advising clients of any additional costs incurred
  5. Conduct audits and samplings at manufacturing plants
  6. Conduct technical research for specialized test projects
  7. Prepare and deliver clear, concise, and accurate reports for all assigned projects
  8. Perform calculations to support design work and testing simulations
  9. Analyze product and material performance through engineering evaluation
  10. Support other engineering and testing activities as needed
  • Perform other duties as required.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S. Degree in Engineering or closely related field of physical science
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience 
  • Knowledge of construction material characteristics and applications, manufacturing techniques, supply sources and engineering principles
  • Knowledge of the U. S. Building Codes and applicable ASTM standards, building design and construction, and modern construction materials and methods
  • Technical competence to effectively communicate test procedures, specifications, and results with customers while possessing skills in diplomacy conducive to working with clients through technically challenging compliance issues
  • Capability of working both individually and within a team
  • Good research, documentation, record keeping and technical writing skills
  • Ability to understand and apply new test methods and procedures for assigned projects
  • Expected to travel as business needs dictate
