PURPOSE OF POSITION: 

  • Provide communication between Iowa Select Farms and their toll mills.  This will include direct involvement and knowledge in feed ordering processes, production, barn level management, invoicing, mill processes, delivery processes and ingredient characteristics. Lead the strategic development and implementation of our Nutrient Service and Compliance teams which encompasses cost-effective manure application, site permitting, development and compliance. Create and implement effective sustainability initiatives with an emphasis on generating business value and aligning with our customer's current and future needs.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain effective lines of communication with:
    1. The Feed Ordering Group
    2. Production Management
    3. Associated Feed Mill Representatives
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase company revenue streams through nutrient sales and cost share.
  • Development of new revenue and cost efficiency opportunities including but not limited to, solar, renewable energy, and carbon markets.        
  • Direct a team with the following responsibilities
    1. Review and monitor feed ordering and delivery processes to improve efficiency
    2. Lead further development, implementation and maintenance of the Iowa Select Farms Feed Manufacturing Protocol
    3. Conduct Mill Audits as defined in Iowa Select Farms Feed Manufacturing Protocol  
    4. Develop and maintain an on-farm feed sampling, and mill ingredient testing program to assure quality is delivered at the farm level
    5. Resolve ingredient, feed & delivery issues and develop prevention strategies through collaboration with ingredient procurement, toll mills and production team
    6. Develop a comprehensive program fully understood at all levels of the process for developing confidence in traceability issues.
    • Oversee Department of National Resources (DNR) compliance, including developing and maintaining field application records according to regulatory requirements.
    • Active involvement in site development which can include permitting, manure management plan development, and other areas of DNR compliance.
    • Responsible for water management processes and procedures across the business as well as visibility to reporting and results for key partners to manage.
    • Further development of Smart Soil Partnership Programs to cultivate relationships and partnerships to increase in-field and edge-of-field conservation practices with our manure customers.
    • Knowledge and expertise in P-Index, RUSLE2 soil loss equation, GIS and GPS programs.
    • Maintain current knowledge of Iowa State University Extension crop science and nutrient uptake recommendations.
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of state and federal government regulations that impact the business.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position is performed indoors.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. 

 

PHYSICALITY REQUIREMENTS

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear.
  • Ability to read and write.   
  • Ability to lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.          
  • The employee must have the ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork.

 

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

  • This is a full-time position that will typically require at least 40 hours a week. 
  • Additional availability may be required during staffing challenges. 
  • Weekend and holiday rotations are a requirement.
  • Occasional evening hours and weekend work may be required as the job duties demand. 

 

TRAVEL.

  • Occasional travel is required for this position with the use of a company vehicle.

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and OTHER QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bilingual - not required 
  • Experience/ Education: Five years of good work history and particular attention to detail in feed manufacturing processes is necessary for this position.  A swine production or agriculture background with an emphasis in feed manufacturing and quality control is preferred for this position.
  • Experience in manure management plans
  • Experience in Water and utility management. 
  • Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record
