PURPOSE OF POSITION: 

  • Oversee and manage medium to large-scale maintenance projects that may impact one or multiple farms, ensuring completion on time, on scope, within budget, and with a focus on customer satisfaction.
  • Provide routine reporting on the status of each assigned project, including progress, risks, and next steps, to maintain transparency and accountability.
  • Coordinate with farm operations, maintenance staff, and vendors to deliver projects that align with organizational goals while upholding safety, biosecurity, and environmental standards.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Project Oversight & Execution
     Lead medium to large-scale maintenance projects from planning through completion, ensuring milestones, deadlines, budgets, and scope are met. Develop and adjust project plans, allocate resources, and align all efforts with Iowa Select Farms' goals for infrastructure improvement, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
  • Team & Vendor Coordination
     Collaborate with farm operations, maintenance staff, and contractors to assign tasks, manage workflows, and maintain clear communication. Provide leadership and direction to ensure projects meet operational needs while upholding safety, biosecurity, and animal welfare standards.
  • Performance, Compliance & Quality Assurance
     Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement corrective actions to stay on track. Conduct site inspections to ensure quality workmanship, adherence to safety guidelines, and compliance with regulations and environmental standards.
  • Budget & Resource Management
     Manage project budgets and expenses, working closely with purchasing and supply chain teams to secure materials and resources in a timely manner. Review and approve work orders, purchase orders, and documentation to support efficient execution.
  • Reporting & Continuous Improvement
     Provide regular updates and progress reports to senior leadership, highlighting key milestones, risks, and next steps. Evaluate completed projects to identify process improvements, cost-saving opportunities, and lessons learned for future projects.
  • Leadership & Development

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position is performed indoors as well as outdoors.
  • This job operates in an office that is climate controlled and includes hazards typical to that environment. 
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibrations.  
  • The environment you will be working in may have nuisance levels of gases and dust, particularly in the winter months

 

PHYSICALITY REQUIREMENTS

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear.
  • Ability to read and write.   
  • The employee must have the ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds along with climbing up ladders and over gates.
  • The employee must be able to continuously repeat necessary movements such as bending, lifting and different hand movements as needed to complete tasks.

 

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

  • This is a full-time position that will typically require at least 40 hours a week. 
  • Additional availability may be required during staffing challenges. 
  • Occasional evening hours and weekend work may be required as the job duties demand. 

 

TRAVEL.

  • 50% travel is required for this position with a company vehicle (home every night).

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and OTHER QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Agriculture, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent experience in project management or facility maintenance will be considered in place of formal education.
  • 5+ years of experience managing medium to large-scale maintenance or construction projects.
  • Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, ventilation, and structural systems common to swine facilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee multiple projects at once, balancing priorities across several farm locations.
  • Experience creating and managing budgets, project schedules, and resource plans.
  • Strong vendor and contractor management skills, including negotiating, scheduling, and quality oversight.
  • Ability to respond effectively to emergencies, ensuring feed, water, air, and other critical systems are restored quickly.
  • Proficiency in project management tools, documentation, and reporting systems.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and support team members.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with cross-functional teams and farm operations.
  • Commitment to Iowa Select Farms' standards for safety, biosecurity, animal welfare, and environmental compliance
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, with fluency in both written and verbal communication is preferred
