Job Summary

Supports the research, development, and scaling of learning initiatives, programs, and/or teaching through experiences at off-campus sites and various digital learning environments. Develops, implements, and assesses a model of engagement and support for campus and community partners that leverages the collective capacity of a global network of field and industry experts with kumu and haumāna to advance innovation, research, and active engagement of our haumāna in a specified field or subject matter aligned to E Ola! learner outcomes.

Essential Responsibilities

Educational Program Design and Delivery

  • Co-designs and delivers quality, personalized, blended learning opportunities in a specified field or subject matter that achieves E Ola! learner outcomes.

  • Supports and implements a model of engagement for campus and community partners that leverages the collective capacity of a global network of field and industry experts with kumu and haumāna that advances a specified field or subject matter and campus initiatives and campus initiatives.

  • Uses specific Research and Innovation processes as a framework for research and development (R&D) to scale progressive learning and teaching pedagogy, instructional strategies and resources that responsibly disrupt educational practices.

  • Leverages indigenous research to influence decision making.

  • Establishes clear communication and expectations through partnership agreements with campus and community partners

  • Works to accelerate and advance the attainment E Ola! learner outcomes by our haumāna.

Leadership and Professional Learning Design

  • Leads professional development and professional learning communities for kumu that scales/ mobilizes knowledge in a specified field or subject matter and innovative learning and teaching practices.

  • Creates and sustains a culture of trust among kumu and haumāna by modeling, collaborating, communicating, mentoring, encouraging, facilitating, and recognizing appropriate instructional risk-taking in an incubation lab.

  • Participates with school level leadership at the appropriate grade levels in understanding, analyzing, and interpreting student data, as well as using findings to improve instructional efficacy in support of initiative learning and teaching.

  • Conducts action research projects to grow professionally in strategic foresight, skill sets and future thinking in a specified field or subject matter.

Data and Reporting

  • Collaboratively works with internal and external partners in designing methodologies, tools, and protocols to maintain quality assurance of data collection and analysis for continuous improvement of programming and R&D projects.

  • Works with staff, school, and/or campus leaders, as appropriate, on data visualization and publication of findings to inform recommendations on scalability.

Relationship Management

  • Serves as a strong partner/advocate to meet identified campus and school needs.

  • Strengthens and stewards positive, productive relationships with alaka'i, kumu, haumana, and 'ohana from Kamehameha Schools, the DOE and network charter schools, and various partners and collaborators.

  • Builds and nurtures a robust and agile advisory network of subject matter experts to advance R&D priorities and focus areas.

  • Serves as a collaborative member of the team with understanding of team structure, roles and responsibilities.

Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the requirements listed.

  • Master's Degree in education, curriculum and instruction, the specified field or subject matter, or closely related field.

  • Minimum 3 years of related work experience.

  • Strong background as a mentor teacher/coach/cooperating teacher in standards-based K-12 education with strong knowledge of educator growth strategies.

  • Strong knowledge and application of educational administration related to curriculum and instruction K-12 such as innovative strategies in learning and teaching.

  • Strong understanding of design methodologies with an innovator's mindset. Ability to design professional development and educational opportunities to serve diverse communities using research-based methodologies.

  • Highly skilled in facilitating and working across multiple groups to ensure alignment of interests and resource optimization.

  • Previous success in building authentic collaborations with DOE, charter and immersion schools and various community agencies.

  • Excellent in problem-solving skills to identify and resolve existing or potential problems.

  • Demonstrate ability to remain flexible in demanding work environment and to adapt to a rapidly changing environment. 

  • Strong data analysis and reporting knowledge and experience. Strong demonstrated ability to design presentations of data, information and outcomes.

  • Ability to work with extremely confidential and sensitive information and understand privacy issues, work independently, and deal with high level contacts internal and external to KS.

  • Outstanding personal integrity and ability to manage responsibilities in a manner beyond reproach.

  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple functions and priorities in an efficient manner.

  • Excellent in communication skills (oral, verbal and written) to influence a wide spectrum of stakeholders such as all levels of management, faculty, staff, external agencies, alumni, students, parents, and other school staff and community resource representatives.

  • Teaching experience with DOE, charter, private, higher education systems and/or community education programs.

  • Knowledge of Hawaiian culture, history, and/or language.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in working with ethnically diverse student and staff populations, especially Native Hawaiians.

  • Experience in building working relationships with a wide variety of groups to forward the mission of the organization.

  • Knowledge and familiarity of KS internal policies, procedures, Strategic Plan, vision, mission and goals.

  • Published author or co-author of publications.

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Frequently sits, perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk or hear.

  • Frequently stand and/or walk, write by hand, and lift and/or carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh up to 40 pounds.

  • Occasionally twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.

Working Conditions (including environmental conditions)   

  • This position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighbor islands to conduct business.

  • Work is conducted in an office environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces (outdoors and in/around water).

  • Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours but may be conducted in evenings and weekends, as necessary.

76,700.00 - 105,200.00 Annual

Based on the compensation range provided below, salaries are commensurate with job-related experience, skills and competencies, education, internal equity, length of work year, and other organizational needs.
