Kamehameha Schools is looking for a Facilities and Grounds Maintenance worker to support our West Hawaii region. This is a temporary/on-call role up to 40/hr a week depending on business need. Job Summary
Responsible for performing comprehensive cleaning and maintenance tasks, including general facility upkeep, restroom sanitation, and grounds maintenance. Performs minor repairs, services equipment, and ensures safety protocols are followed while maintaining a clean, safe, and operational environment.
Essential Responsibilities
Custodial Services:
Performs comprehensive cleaning tasks, including vacuuming, sweeping, dusting, and mopping floors, as well as maintaining surfaces such as walls, ceilings, desks, windows, and countertops, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
Regularly pressure wash all concrete walkways and paths to ensure they remain clean, clear, and safe for pedestrian traffic.
Cleans and disinfects restrooms, conducts regular checks and replenishes supplies to uphold hygiene standards and ensure restrooms are consistently fully stocked and operational.
General Maintenance and Facility Support:
Independently performs general facility maintenance services and may assist in training other Facility & Grounds Maintenance Workers.
Performs general building and fixture repairs, including repairing/replacing screens, installing non-skid strips, and performing simple carpentry tasks such as fixing doors, windows, latches, and installing/changing locks.
Responsible for routine maintenance tasks, including plumbing repairs to fixtures and drainage systems, as well as general painting and touch-ups on surfaces and furnishings.
Ensures proper maintenance and service of equipment and tools, including cleaning, replacing defective parts, and preparing and restoring work areas as needed.
Supports student activities and projects by delivering and assembling equipment, furniture, materials, and office or school supplies to various locations as needed.
Maintains grounds and equipment at assigned locations, including lawn care, trimming, pruning, and applying fertilizers or pesticides as needed.
Handles landscaping and waste management, including planting, watering, and disposing of yard waste and debris.
Safety:
Attends all technical and safety- training, including on-the-job training, uses all PPE, and adheres to safety guidance.
Assesses work to be performed in advance to identify work-related risks and implements proper mitigations to ensure safety.
Position Requirements
Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the requirements listed.
High School diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of 1-year related work experience.
Valid driver ‘s license.
Ability to independently plan, organize, and execute work, including estimating time and materials, with little to no supervision
Basic knowledge of tools and equipment used in custodial, grounds keeping and facilities maintenance work.
Knowledge of proper use, safety rules and regulations when operating or using tools and equipment in custodial, groundskeeping and facilities maintenance work.
Working knowledge of building maintenance practices, tools and materials.
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and simple sketches
Ability to regularly lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Knowledge of safe and effective methods for the application of fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides.
Preferred Qualifications
Trade school or high school shop classes, previous work experience in related field.
Physical Requirements
May require physical work; lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.
Often requires walking/standing, bending/crouching/reaching/etc., and at times sitting.
Manual dexterity and strength to work with hand tools.
Working Conditions
Travel may be required, including visits to various locations and neighboring islands to conduct business.
Work may involve exposure to extreme temperatures and contact with hazardous materials, dust, dirt, smoke, unpleasant odors, loud noises, etc.
Often work outdoors and indoors.
Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday during normal business hours; evening or weekend hours may be required to meet goals and objectives.
