Job Summary

Responsible to coordinate all audio visual, sound and lighting activities held at the performing arts auditorium, and may support other campus events as needed. These activities include, operation and maintenance of lighting and sound systems, maintenance of shop tools, furniture, equipment, and facility infrastructure. Works with teachers, students and other users in productions and events at various campus venues. Assists each user group with facilities/equipment use and acts as technical and/or construction consultant with theatre sets, audio setups, and video productions as necessary.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the facility operation/organization of all events and efficient operation.
  • Maintains, sets up, and tests the facility and its equipment. Designs lights and operational sound for all events.
  • Acts as a construction consultant and builder for props, scenery and set designs to be used in the facility.
  • Trains, faculty, students and staff in the proper use and care of facility.
  • Responsible for the operation of all audio visual, sound, and lighting equipment for other events at other venues on campus
  • Setting up and breaking down electronic equipment at special events
  • Support with planning and organizing of electronic media events such as film festivals and video showcases
  • Provide assistance to Head of School office with media projects and special events
  • Supports campus video production needs (i.e. broadcast troubleshooting, set lighting design and layout, audio troubleshooting, consulting and student mentoring, etc.)
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the requirements listed.

  • Bachelors Degree in Theatre or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of related work experience, including 3 years of theatre, event, sound and light production experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to interact with faculty, staff and outside groups.
  • Experience working in a theatre / event / production venue.
  • Excellent working knowledge of theatre/arena lighting and sound systems required.
  • Knowledge of theatre stage rigging, sound engineering, event lighting, video broadcast or ENG/EFP video production, etc.
  • Willingness to learn and exhibit a commitment to an improved, high-quality education system for Native Hawaiian learners
  • Team player who works well with others to achieve desired results; demonstrate respect and tolerance for the ideas of others; ability to incorporate the thinking of individuals in groups to reach group consensus
  • Comfort and willingness to actively participate in school community
  • Unquestioned integrity and commitment to the schools mission and willingness to serve the school community

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous supervisory or event management skills preferred.
  • Specialized Training, Knowledge, skills and the abilities required to perform the position tasks, typically acquired through theater experience which includes: large set rigging and manipulation, sound and lighting system design and operation.
  • Previous experience working with various camera systems used in video broadcast or ENG/EFP video production.
  • Knowledge of livestreaming with various online platforms (i.e. YouTube, Facebook, Twitch, etc.).
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to Hawaiian culture and Christian values
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and facilitation skills
  • Prior demonstration of exemplary attendance is expected of any candidate for hire
  • Knowledge of KS mission, strategic plan, policies, and procedures
  • Must be able to support and understand the importance of revitalizing and promoting Hawaiian cultural vibrancy in achieving KS' mission and KS' commitment to Hawaiian cultural vibrancy among its leadership, staff, and learners system-wide
  • Appreciation for Native Hawaiian culture and language perpetuation

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently sits, perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk or hear.
  • Occasionally stand and/or walk, write by hand, and lift and/or carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.
  • Occasionally climb various heights to reach lighting and rigging fixtures (i.e. theater catwalk)

Working Conditions

  • This position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighbor islands to conduct business.
  • Work is conducted in an office/school environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces.
  • Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours but evening and weekend hours are often required to meet goals and objectives.
