Kamehameha Schools Kapalama Campus is looking for a High School Educational Specialist to join their team! This is a Defined Term position for the 25-26 SY with full employee benefits.

Job Summary

Develops, plans, and implements a variety of academic support services for students, including individual and small group tutoring, supplemental instruction, academic skills workshops and classes, close student monitoring, and acceleration to content mastery. Solicits, coordinates, and organizes tutors and other support staff, services and resources for students. Develops appropriate instructional tools and resources to support students' academic development, including teaching basic skills that promote academic and personal success.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provides instructional intervention using various learning strategies to diverse learners in one-to-one or small group settings and refers students with additional needs to appropriate resources.
  • Closely monitors student progress and uses appropriate methods to promote positive study skills and academic independence.
  • Works directly with students who need additional assistance with reading, writing, and literacy across all content areas.
  • Collaborates and consults with teachers, staff, administration, parents, & dorm advisors on individual student concerns & problems to support students' growth.
  • Develops, administers and maintains assessment tools and records for students receiving academic support services.

Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the requirements listed.

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related work experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of teaching/working with a diverse group of students with varying academic abilities.
  • Excellent oral & writing skills needed to clearly communicate with students, parents, administrators, teachers & community resource representatives.
  • Strong interpersonal skills in order to relate & interact effectively with faculty, students and their families who may come from a diverse background.
  • Ability to facilitate group activities and teach enrichment classes. • Ability to maintain composure, tact, sensitivity & flexibility during peak stress periods.
  • Organized & able to handle multiple and unanticipated assignments, priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and with others in team situations.
  • Has a wide range of teaching strategies to work with a diverse student population with varying academic abilities.
  • Understanding & sensitivity to the Hawaiian community & culture is desirable.
  • Is able to work flexible hours that may include evening and weekend activities.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently sits, perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk or hear.
  • Occasionally stand and/or walk, write by hand, and lift and/or carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
  • Rarely twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.

Working Conditions

  • This position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighbor islands to conduct business.
  • Work is conducted in an office/school environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces.
  • Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours but evening and weekend hours are often required to meet goals and objectives.

Pay Range

$58,761.00 - $154,633.00

Compensation and Benefits

Please note that the pay range for education staff is determined by several factors, including the length of the work year required for the position (9.75 – 11.5 months), the highest degree/educational credentials earned from an accredited institution, and the number of verified years of full-time, eligible, and relevant work experience. For reference, the lowest end of the scale applies to individuals with a Bachelor's degree and 0-1 years of verified, full-time, eligible work experience. Conversely, the highest end of the range would apply to an individual with a Ph.D. and 22 years of verified, full-time, eligible experience. The specific placement on the pay scale will be detailed in the employment offer.
