The Coordinator is a Registered Nurse with recognized leadership abilities and sound clinical skills who will actively assist the Director and/or Manager in coordinating the day-to-day activities of the unit. The Coordinator takes a leading role in activities such as nursing performance improvement, job performance evaluations, staffing, scheduling and working with the directors in the orientation and training of new employees

The Gamma Unit Coordinator provides professional support, planning, and facilitating of patient care responsible for complete care of the stereotactic radiosurgery patient as well as coordinating for the stereotactic radiosurgery patient. This RN will work in coordination with a Neurosurgeon, Radiation Oncologist, and various members of the Radiation Therapy team to ensure patients receive quality care according to policies and procedures. Responsibilities include attending Tumor Board, preparing and educating patients for procedures, identifying opportunities to improve patient care services, and flexibility to assist Norris Radiation Oncology as needed.

Essential Duties:

  • Develops and maintains the ongoing Departmental Process Improvement projects.
  • Complies with JCAHO and regulatory standards as they relate to the department.
  • Establishes and maintains staff and physician relationships.
  • Supports continuous and ongoing customer satisfaction through the hospital wide service excellence standards.
  • Performs as an agent of change and promotes change as an opportunity for growth, learning, and development.
  • Responsible for coordinating pre-op testing, scheduling, and follow up care of all radiosurgery patients
  • Collaborates with all disciplines in designing patient schedule for radiosurgery procedures.
  • Coordinates patient flow in and out of the Gamma Unit, in conjunction with the Cardiac Cath lab.
  • Maintains professionalism with all customers at all times.
  • Delegates duties among staff within their scope of practice as appropriate.
  • In collaboration with Materials Management, meet corporate expectations of inventory control.
  • Identifies and implements revenue enhancing ideas.
  • Orients, directs, and instructs other unit personnel. Demonstrates ability to positively influence other's behavior by serving as a role model.
  • Ensures competency of staff through annual skills validations and of all outside resources (registry) via established hospital registry competencies.
  • Acts as a mentor and resource to Gamma Unit staff.
  • Functions as a patient advocate.
  • Assesses a patient's knowledge base/understanding of their procedure.
  • Responsible for pre-op assessment and intra-op nursing care.
  • Facilitates the development of comprehensive plan of care, coordinates services, provides patient and family education and evaluates the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Ensures that procedures are planned and executed considering physiologic and developmental age; including pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients and that these procedures are documented accurately on the chart, including patient's tolerance.
  • Provides for own professional growth regarding trends in clinical nursing, equipment and procedures through formal and informal continuing education.
  • Coordinates and integrates department services on intradepartmental, interdepartmental, and hospital wide levels.
  • Plans for provision of services through provision of appropriate levels of qualified, competent staff. Policies and procedures are in place to support scope of practice.
  • Establishes and maintains performance improvement and quality control activities which support the department and the hospital.
  • Provides for orientation, training, and continuing education of staff.
  • Monitor space/resource requirements and utilization of outside resources.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Req Bachelor's Degree Nursing Degree in Nursing
  • Req 2 years Two years experience in a Critical Care Unit setting
  • Req Organization/time management skills.
  • Req Demonstrate excellent customer service behavior.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pref 2 years two years experience in a supervisory role preferred.
  • Pref 2 years Neurosurgery experience strongly preferred.

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Req Registered Nurse - RN (CA DCA)
  • Req Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association
  • Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)
  • Req Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association

The hourly rate range for this position is $53.00 - $87.45.
