Role: Associate Buyer

Location: Vernon Hills – on-site

Duration: long term contract, potentially contract to hire

Pay: $30-33/hr.

Monday - Friday; 8am-5pm

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible to purchase assigned Raw materials, components, and finished goods to meet production and customer demands. Maintain the procure-to-pay cycle, including requisitions, purchase orders, supplier monitoring, continuous improvements, and address supplier issues related to the purchased product. Participate in Supplier development and improvement activities, meeting increased quality and delivery performance, and meeting cost and inventory turn objectives.

 

DUTIES

• Prepares and places purchase orders, verifying specifications and price. Maintains appropriate purchasing files as required.
• Develops, implements, and distributes purchase plans for materials and services.
• Collaborates with internal customers (i.e. Production, Material Planning, Quality, Warehouse, etc.) to ensure supplier parts and / or services are obtained to meet schedule requirements while sustaining optimal inventory levels.
• Monitors demand and evaluates purchase orders, expediting as needed.
• Facilitates the return of rejected material. Reconciles problem packing slips / bills of lading / certificate of conformance or analysis and manages the credit and system transactions as needed.
• Tracks, evaluates, and implements supplier cost, quality and delivery performance and improvement initiatives.
• Maintains and improves Supplier relationships to support manufacturing and corporate procurement requirements.
• Supports Corporate safety initiatives to prevent safety incidents and lean initiatives which eliminate wastes.
• Works directly with and closely coordinates with requisitioners including technical stakeholders and and/or varying departments to ensure understanding of product prior to order placement.

 

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience

Minimum work experience required in addition to education above: 2 years related experience in purchasing, buying, procurement with degree, 4+ without degree

 

Additional Requirements:

• Two (2) years' experience in purchasing, or similar supplier interfacing role
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Teams.
• Two (2) years' direct hands on experience in an MRP system environment.
• Technical knowledge of components in the assigned commodities to effectively communicate with and support technical departments at the company and the suppliers.
• Self-starter: someone who is proactive, who can lead by example. Volunteers readily; seeks increased responsibility; asks for and offers help when needed.
• Experience working in a highly regulated industry.

• Adapts to frequent change, delay, or unexpected events in work environment.
• Possess some negotiating skills; ability to reach agreement while avoiding conflict/dispute while achieving favorable outcome for the company
• Must possess proficient organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
• Able to work independently with some instruction from management. Follows instructions and responds to management direction; takes responsibility for own actions; keeps commitments to reach goals; completes tasks on time.
