Technical Analyst – Metals

Department: Metals
Reports To: Chemistry Director

Position Overview

The Technical Analyst – Metals serves as the technical authority for laboratory methods, instrumentation, and analytical data integrity within the Chemistry Department. This role ensures the scientific validity, regulatory compliance, and defensibility of analytical results generated by the laboratory.

This is a non-supervisory position and does not include direct personnel management, performance evaluations, staffing oversight, project prioritization, or business accountability. The focus of this role is strictly technical oversight, method authority, and quality compliance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise to laboratory staff.

  • Ensure analytical activities meet scientific standards and applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Maintain technical oversight of laboratory instrumentation to ensure operational readiness and compliance.

  • Lead method development, validation, implementation, and technical data review.

  • Share responsibility for the technical accuracy and integrity of laboratory reports prior to release.

  • Develop and oversee technical training programs and competency standards to support staff proficiency and cross-training.

  • Identify, evaluate, and mitigate technical risks within laboratory processes.

  • Perform sample preparation, analytical testing, and data interpretation as needed.

  • Author, revise, and manage controlled SOPs in alignment with Quality Management System (QMS) and regulatory requirements.

  • Oversee SOP review, change control processes, and QA/QC approvals to ensure consistency with validated methods.

  • Support internal and external audits by providing technical documentation and compliance evidence.

  • Perform additional laboratory-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related scientific field with a minimum of 24 semester credit hours in chemistry required. Advanced degree preferred.

Experience

  • 2–5 years of experience in analytical laboratory operations.

  • Experience working under TNI 2016 and ISO/IEC 17025 standards required.

  • Demonstrated expertise in analytical instrumentation and technical data review.

  • Experience in a regulated laboratory environment (e.g., ISO/IEC, GMP, or equivalent) required.

  • ICP-MS experience preferred.

  • Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week; overtime and weekend work may be required.
