Consultant Quality Manager
Food Manufacturing
Location: St. Louis, MO area
Duration: 2–4 Months (Contract/Consultancy)
Role Purpose
The Interim Quality Manager will oversee the Quality Assurance department, ensuring the facility maintains the highest standards of food safety, regulatory compliance, and operational integrity. This role requires a "hands-on" leader capable of managing daily lab operations while driving high-level continuous improvement initiatives. Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Personnel Management
- Direct Oversight: Supervise, mentor, and direct the QA Lab team, including workload planning and performance management.
- Training & Development: Lead onboarding and ad-hoc training for all personnel regarding Quality and Food Safety Management Systems.
- Cross-Functional Authority: Act as the primary quality authority for site, supplier, and customer activities, with the power to take initiative/action to protect product integrity.
- Audit Facilitation: Lead and support customer, regulatory, and 3rd-party audits (SQF, HACCP, etc.).
- Process Improvement: Implement and refine quality assurance components, including data analysis, systems evaluation, and quality technology.
- Document Control: Maintain and revise all SOPs, SSOPs, and forms within the document management system.
- Sanitation Oversight: Manage sanitation responsibilities and environmental monitoring programs.
- Testing & Inspection: Direct inspection of hardware and systems audits; oversee raw material, in-process, and finished goods testing.
- Data Trending: Compile and analyze test information to diagnose equipment malfunctions and determine process efficiency.
- Project Support: Provide quality oversight for commissioning, qualification, and validation (CQV) of capital projects.
- Complaint Resolution: Investigate and resolve customer or vendor complaints with detailed root-cause analysis.
Education & Experience
- Academic Background: Degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Industry Experience: 7+ years of practical experience in Food Safety, Quality Management, or Project Management within the food manufacturing sector.
- Leadership: Proven ability to drive change through indirect leadership and coaching.
- Certifications: HACCP Certification is required; SQF Practitioner status is highly preferred.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Deep familiarity with GMP, HACCP, SQF, GQMS, and LIMS.
- Analytical Skills: Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to use data for tracking, trending, and decision-making.
- Software: Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
