Electrical Engineer - Brainerd, MN
Full Time / Direct Hire - Open Salary Range, Based on Experience
Seeking an Electrical Engineer with expertise in electrical engineering (EE), firmware development, product design, manufacturing, and IoT systems. This role requires a hands-on problem solver who can take products from concept to production while integrating cutting-edge technology. The ideal candidate will work across multiple engineering disciplines to design, develop, and optimize innovative solutions for our IoT-enabled products.
Electrical Engineering & Firmware Development:
- Design and develop PCBs, circuit layouts, and power management systems for IoT devices.
- Develop and optimize firmware for embedded systems, focusing on real-time processing and low-power operation.
- Work with wireless communication protocols (LoRa, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, LTE, NB-IoT, etc.).
- Debug and test hardware and firmware to ensure optimal performance.
Product Design & Development:
- Lead the end-to-end product development lifecycle, from concept to production.
- Optimize product design for functionality, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Collaborate with mechanical to integrate electronics into enclosures with considerations for thermal, environmental, and durability constraints.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and certifications (FCC, CE, UL, etc.).
Manufacturing & Production Support:
- Work closely with manufacturers department and suppliers to bring designs into mass production.
- Define testing procedures, quality control measures, and production validation processes.
- Troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing defects to improve yield and reliability.
- Develop and maintain BOMs, assembly drawings, and process documentation.
IoT System Integration & Connectivity:
- Design IoT-enabled products with cloud connectivity and edge processing capabilities.
- Integrate IoT devices with platforms, APIs, and mobile applications.
- Work on OTA firmware updates, remote diagnostics, and security for IoT deployments.
- Collaborate with software engineers to develop data pipelines and real-time monitoring dashboards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience in hardware design, firmware development, and product engineering.
- Proficiency in embedded C/C++, Python, and Basic based firmware development.
- Hands-on experience with PCB design (KiCad, Diptrace).
- Strong knowledge of wireless communication standards and sensor integration.
- Experience working with IoT platforms (AWS IoT, Azure IoT, Google Cloud IoT, etc.).
- Familiarity with DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and DFA (Design for Assembly) best practices.
- Understanding of industrial and consumer electronics product lifecycles.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with low-power design and battery optimization.
- Knowledge of machine learning at the edge and AI-driven IoT applications.
- Experience with mobile app and cloud API integration.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently and cross-functionally in a fast-paced product development environment.
