Environmental Project Manager | Chattanooga, TN
Direct Hire | Onsite

A Kelly Engineering client has asked us to find an Environmental Project Manager to join their team to oversee landfill permitting, regulatory compliance, and site development activities across multiple locations within the region. This role manages the engineering department's budget, controls related spending, and supervises personnel involved in development activities.

Client is open to assisting with relocation expenses.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Manage landfill construction projects, including cell development, capacity planning, scheduling, and coordination of materials and resources.
  • Oversee financials for construction, closure/post-closure, engineering, and operational activities, including cost tracking.
  • Coordinate permit applications and site design updates, ensuring regulatory compliance for expansions and operational changes.
  • Prepare responses to regulatory inspections and administrative notices.
  • Support Site and Landfill Managers in developing fill sequencing plans.
  • Contribute to acquisition assessments through Phase I surveys, design/operations reviews, and pro-forma modeling.
  • Maintain stakeholder communication, including corporate, regulatory agencies, consultants, and investors.
  • Compile monthly soil tracking and project status reports.
  • Supervise Environmental Technicians and Specialists, handling hiring, training, performance management, and daily oversight.
  • Attend regulatory and industry association meetings to stay informed on policy changes.
  • Ensure environmental compliance through coordination of air and water monitoring, data analysis, and reporting.
 
Desired skills and experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in landfill engineering or environmental compliance (air, water, and solid waste).
  • In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations governing air, water, solid waste, and recycling/material recovery.
  • Skilled in communicating effectively with internal teams, external partners, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Proven project management and multi-tasking abilities with a track record of meeting deadlines.
  • Strong analytical mindset with a focus on delivering business value.
  • Proficient in interpreting technical documents, regulatory guidelines, and industry publications.
