This role is with a biotechnology organization based in St. Louis, Missouri, focused on developing and commercializing high-quality in vitro diagnostics for neurodegenerative diseases. The CAP-accredited, CLIA-certified laboratory specializes in high-resolution mass spectrometry-based biomarker testing. Position Summary
The Company is seeking an Interim Laboratory Director to oversee the operation and compliance of a clinical laboratory. This will be a remote and part-time assignment that is expected to last approximately 6-12 months. The ideal candidate will have a deep background in laboratory medicine and clinical chemistry, with strong leadership and regulatory knowledge. This role can be performed remotely, with occasional on-site visits as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee operations of the CLIA-certified, CAP-accredited lab, ensuring full compliance with all relevant regulatory agencies (CLIA, CAP, NYS, ISO).
- Serve as the laboratory's CLIA-designated director and assume responsibilities of roles such as Clinical Consultant, Technical Supervisor, or General Supervisor, as needed.
- Ensure high-quality performance across all testing phases: pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic.
- Approve laboratory documentation, testing policies, procedures, validations, and modifications.
- Partner with Company leadership on strategy, goal setting, and performance optimization.
- Oversee staffing plans and ensure personnel are qualified, trained, and proficient.
- Participate in client-facing meetings, particularly with pharmaceutical sponsors.
- Contribute to research initiatives, publications, and scientific presentations.
- Support continuous quality improvement through QA/QC programs, KPIs, and audits.
- Mentor and guide lab personnel in their professional development.
Qualifications
- MD and/or PhD with board certification in Clinical Chemistry (DABCC or equivalent).
- 10+ years of post-training experience in clinical chemistry or laboratory medicine.
- Active, unrestricted medical license in the state of Missouri.
- New York State Certificate of Qualification (CoQ) is required.
