Job Description:
We are seeking Jockey Truck Drivers with at least 12 months of consecutive experience, a clean driving record, and a history of excellent attendance.
General Summary:
As a Yard Jockey, you will report to the Warehouse Manager and be responsible for the movement and positioning of containers to support warehouse operations in sorting and processing materials for shipment or storage. You'll ensure timely movements and have a thorough understanding of on-hand inventory and positioning.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maintain a neat and orderly storage lot to optimize efficiency in meeting plant needs.
- Safely operate the Yard Truck during frequent roll-on/roll-off procedures with loaded and empty containers.
- Drive and control the vehicle under 15 mph within the plant and storage/staging area.
- Recognize the operation's demands, focusing on preventive maintenance and scheduled vehicle services.
- Be aware of the various surfaces like asphalt, concrete, and gravel that may pose challenges, especially regarding tire conditions.
- Accurately track container numbers, gross weights, tare weights, and net weights on the scale log sheet.
- Collaborate with plant personnel daily and adhere to plant safety protocols.
- Communicate effectively using cellular telephone or 2-way radio with dispatch, operations, and warehouse staff.
- Security of valuable commodities and the storage area is crucial, often requiring collaboration with supervisors for decisions.
- Perform additional duties and tasks as assigned by management.
Miscellaneous:
Accurate, timely, and neat record-keeping is essential for the success of plant and transportation operations.
