Laboratory Supervisor
Nashville, TN 37217

Diagnostic company seeking a highly motivated and experienced Laboratory Supervisor to lead our 2nd  shift operations. In this critical role, you'll ensure the highest standards of quality and compliance in our CLIA-certified laboratory, directly supervising our dedicated team of technologists and driving efficient, accurate testing. Job Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership & Quality Assurance

  • Oversee daily operations of the CLIA Laboratory during the PM shift, including staff and clinical run scheduling to meet turnaround times.
  • Manage staff coverage and allocate resources effectively based on testing volumes.
  • Monitor ongoing test performance, including reviewing quality control data (reagent/equipment qualifications, control charting).
  • Track pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic key quality indicators.
  • Assign and/or perform proficiency testing (or Alternative Performance Assessment) and instrument/method comparison testing.
  • Ensure timely completion and closeout of Deviations, Nonconformances, and CAPAs.
  • Oversee equipment management, ensuring all maintenance schedules (daily, weekly, monthly, yearly calibration/preventative maintenance) are up to date and reviewing monthly logs.
  • Perform clinical testing in accordance with laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analyses, and reporting, maintaining accurate patient test records.
Technical Expertise & Problem Solving
  • Resolve technical problems following established policies and procedures.
  • Ensure remedial actions are taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
  • Identify and correct problems affecting test performance or reporting, or escalate as needed to the General Supervisor, Technical Supervisor, Clinical Consultant, or Director.
  • Document all corrective actions for test system deviations.
Team Leadership & Development
  • Directly supervise assigned staff, including regular 1-on-1s, motivation, evaluation, counseling, and disciplinary actions in compliance with EEO/AA goals.
  • Perform and assess staff competency in a timely manner.
  • Conduct new employee training and ongoing re-training for staff.
Documentation & Compliance
  • Write new SOPs as needed and biannually review existing SOPs for currency and approval within the document management system.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory workbooks, forms, and records, demonstrating fluent Good Documentation Practice.
  • Monitor reagent and consumable inventory levels.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly working environment.
  • Assist with preparation for CLIA, CAP, TN Medical Laboratory Board, and other regulatory inspections and audits.
  • Collaborate with the Laboratory Manager, Director of Operations, and Laboratory Director to ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations and company policies.
  • Ensure departmental compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Continuous Improvement & Safety
  • Support continuous improvement efforts in quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness (e.g., workflow optimization, validation efforts).
  • Strictly adhere to all safety guidelines.
Job Requirements:
  • Current State of Tennessee Department of Health Medical Laboratory Supervisor License (Generalist or Molecular Diagnostics).
  • Bachelor's Degree (minimum) in a chemical, biological, clinical, or medical laboratory science.
  • 2+ years of clinical laboratory experience in a supervisory role overseeing high-complexity testing.
  • Technical experience in Molecular Diagnostics (e.g., Real-Time PCR, Droplet Digital PCR, Next Generation Sequencing) is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Quality Assurance and Quality Control processes and requirements.
  • Experience preparing for and coordinating laboratory inspections by Federal, State, and other governing agencies.
  • Proficiency with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and Electronic Document Management Systems (EDMS).
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Highly organized with strong documentation skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Results and goals-oriented with integrity, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to quality.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment and quickly adapt to shifting priorities.
Job Details:
  • Work Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday; 2:00pm-10:30pm (Subject to Change)
  • Training Schedule: Monday-Friday; 9am-5:30pm
  • Flexible and open to occasionally working alternate shifts to support coverage requirements.
  • Required to work holidays per Clinical Operations Schedule Policy.
  • Temp-to-Hire
