Laboratory Technician
 
Kelly® Science & Clinical is seeking a Laboratory Technician for a 3 to 4-month contract position at a premier environmental agency in Oakland, CA. Pay Rate:  
$30/hour

Overview:
In this role you will be responsible for the chemical, biological, and physical analysis of water and wastewater.

Schedule: 
Monday-Friday, standard working hours
 
Responsibilities:

  • Conducts and evaluates physical, chemical, biological, and microbiological testing on water, wastewater, industrial waste, and similar substances.
  • Prepares, calibrates, operates, and performs minor upkeep on various basic laboratory equipment and instruments; manages forms, calculations, and records.
  • Identifies and resolves issues in analytical procedures; suggests procedure and form modifications as needed.
  • Carries out multiple sample preparation tasks, including both manual and automated soil, water, wastewater, and industrial waste extraction or digestion; may gather samples and calculate amounts; may prepare and store samples for subcontract lab services.
  • Handles, catalogs, and preserves a range of samples; logs samples into a laboratory information management system (LIMS), and inputs field and subcontract data; aids in organizing sample collection programs; gets samples ready for transport, storage, and lab testing.
  • Makes standard chemical solutions, reagents, stains, and bacteria media; maintains lab cleanliness and orderliness.
  • Washes and readies glassware for sample collection; sterilizes bacteriological gear; assembles sample kits to distribute.
  • Keeps track of supplies and equipment; orders, replaces, and keeps stock of chemical reagents and standards.
  • Consolidates and logs data onto worksheets; inputs reviewed data and test results into a LIMS.
  • Follows typical safety protocols; adheres to proper quality assurance procedures during analytical tasks.
  • Sustains accurate quality assurance and control (QA/QC) records and documentation.
  • Supports lab technicians and chemists with specific analytical tasks.
  • Executes duties in line with departmental ethics, data integrity, and health and safety policies.
  • Uses automated or computer-based work management systems, or other digital and computer applications during work duties.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, or related field OR
  • High School Diploma with 2+ years or relevant work experience
