Location:  Granville, OH
Pay:  $22/hr.
Shift:  Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm
Duration:  6 months

PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The product development technician actively participates in a collaborative, agile team focused on developing and commercializing new shingle product innovations.  This includes work to prototype, trial, and test new shingle materials or designs to deliver customer inspired solutions.  Performance and raw material evaluation will occur across lab, pilot, and plant manufacturing scales.   Experiments will be performed at both the Science and Technology Center in Granville, as well as in our United States production facilities.  The role may also involve running mimic equipment and developing new test methods for performance validation. The ability to work safely, efficiently, and accurately will be critical to success.   This is an excellent opportunity for a self-starting individual willing to learn, comfortable working with minimal supervision, able to balance multiple assignments and interested in effectively working across traditional product design/manufacturing/performance areas.

Reports to: Senior Scientist II

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrates an unconditional commitment to safety

  • Implements a personal safety action plan and reviews with leader
  • Participates in regular safety meetings
  • Ensures rigorous compliance to standard safety procedures, management of change, and Owens Corning (OC) corporate policies
  • Focuses on sustaining a safe and organized work environment for self and coworkers
  • Reads and understands relevant Safety Data Sheets, Job Hazard Assessments, and Standard Operating Procedures
Executes prototyping, testing, and test method development support
  • Teams with scientists and engineers to develop and validate innovations that will improve roofing product features, quality, and productivity
  • Perform standard and nonstandard laboratory and application testing (ASTM, UL, and other methods) including mechanical property testing of shingle materials
  • Supports and invents new test method development as needed
  • Fully understands requestor requirements and provides trustworthy data on product properties
  • Accurately record measurements and data along with relevant observations for the requestor scientist or engineer, and provide quality results to satisfy customer needs and expectations
  • Identify gaps in laboratory technology and recommend improvements
JOB REQUIREMENTS
 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma. Associates degree in a technical field is preferred.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills           
  • Hands-on aptitude and flexibility to work in service organization supporting changing needs of customers, agility to redirect work to the top business needs.
  • Comfortable working with raw materials and operating mechanical equipment, testing equipment, measuring/mixing devices, and instrumentation
  • Must understand and use basic data analysis and be comfortable using a computer. A working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) required
 
EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience in a manufacturing and laboratory environment
  • Hands on experience in product testing
  • Track record of accuracy in data collection and transcription
