Description

Lab Technician – R&D (Natural Colors & Sugar Reduction)
Location: Houston, TX 77064

Kelly Science & Clinical is seeking entry-level Lab Technicians to join our client's dynamic R&D team focused on converting food and beverage formulas from artificial colors to natural colors, as well as reducing sugar content. In this collaborative role, you'll work closely with Product Development Scientists and Managers, while also interacting with Marketing and occasionally Sales.
This position offers a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in recipe modification, benchtop testing, and product development in a fast-paced, purpose-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities (Under Supervision of Scientist or Manager):

  • Gather ingredients and materials needed for recipe development
  • Modify existing formulations to replace artificial colors with natural alternatives
  • Reduce sugar in formulations while maintaining taste and appearance
  • Develop control and test recipes that closely match original product color
  • Conduct shelf-life stability testing for new recipes
  • Participate in product cuttings and presentations with Marketing and Sales teams
  • Maintain clean and organized lab spaces to ensure GMP compliance
  • Document new recipes and input them into approved formats
  • Alert supervisor promptly about potential delays or issues
  • Occasionally assist with other R&D tasks including product sampling or development
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific field (e.g., Food Science, Chemistry, Biology) preferred but not required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • High level of attention to detail and strong follow-through
  • Excellent math and analytical skills for formulation and testing
  • Commitment to creating consumer-friendly, lower-sugar and naturally colored products
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus, but not required
Additional Information:
  • Technicians are expected to complete approximately 40 conversions per month (10 per week)
  • Work environment includes wet/humid conditions; noise level is moderate
  • This is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in hands-on experience in R&D and product innovation within the food industry
Job Details
  • Contract position through December 2025 (with potential extension through June 2026)
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm
  • Pay Rate: $20 per hour
