Description

Laboratory Technician

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and test laboratory batches for the adhesives product line, ensuring compliance with internal standards and automotive customer specifications.
  • Document data and test results in an electronic laboratory notebook; prepare formal reports as required.
  • Organize and maintain data, execute assigned tasks according to established priorities, and adhere to project timelines.
  • Collaborate closely with chemists, technicians, customers, and suppliers to support new product development and ongoing product maintenance.
  • Participate actively in the formulation, testing, qualification, and scale-up of adhesive products.
Key Duties:
  • Assist in the co-development of new products aligned with customer needs and business strategy.
  • Manufacture adhesive batches, conduct lab tests on substrates, and accurately collect and record data.
  • Support product scale-up efforts by working collaboratively within teams and following established procedures.
  • Learn and apply best laboratory practices to perform responsibilities independently, safely, and efficiently.
  • Maintain awareness of customer requirements; uphold product quality and performance standards.
  • Proactively adhere to and promote environmental, health, and safety practices within the R&D facility.
  • Evaluate new materials and components, and maintain laboratory equipment as designated Equipment Responsible Person (ERP).
  • Conduct high-quality experiments, analyze laboratory data, and interpret results.
Essential Functions:
  • Prepare intermediate products and adhesive batches.
  • Lift and move pails weighing up to 50 pounds as required.
  • Weigh raw materials and transfer them into mixers; scrape and clean mixer bowls following batch processing.
  • Package samples, maintain controlled environments, and perform adhesive characterization/tests (e.g., viscosity, rheology, mechanical property testing).
  • Apply adhesives using manual or automated caulking equipment.
  • Order, inventory, organize, and distribute laboratory materials.
  • Clean and maintain laboratory workspaces; calibrate and verify lab equipment daily.
  • Document all activities, health and safety audits, and experimental plans/work in an Electronic Lab Notebook.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate or Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline preferred. 
  • Previous laboratory experience in an industrial or R&D environment is essential.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to safe, efficient work practices.
  • Highly self-motivated, adaptable to fast-paced environments, eager to learn, and adept at prioritizing tasks and managing time effectively.
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills; able to collaborate with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OneDrive, Outlook, and Microsoft Teams.
  • Comfortable with data entry and analysis using Excel or similar applications, with the ability to recognize data anomalies.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Capable of regularly lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds and frequently up to 40 pounds.
  • Experience with polymers is preferred but not required.
