Pay rate: $20-35/hour.
Overview
Supervision of processing Microbiology samples while following all quality and internal policies and procedures; including but not limited to sample preparation, analysis, equipment maintenance, and sample/media disposal. Supervision of microbiology technicians. The Microbiology Lead performs testing as well as supervises the microbiology staff and activities of the microbiology department.
Responsibilities
- Supervises the preparation of samples for testing following laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOP); also prepares samples as previously described.
- Qualified to supervise and run all laboratory testing instruments and equipment.
- Supervises and operates and performs routine maintenance on VIDAS instrument, incubators, scales, pH meter and autoclaves.
- Supervises the maintenance of quality control and maintenance logbooks/ spreadsheets.
- Supervises and monitors consumable supplies and keep inventory of supplies at recommended levels.
- Performs high quality work by striving for zero defects / error-free work.
- Assist Laboratory Manager in maintaining documents for the Quality Management System, including writing SOPs.
- Supervises the development and coordination of Lab systems and procedures to ensure efficient and effective Lab operations while maintaining on time delivery of requested orders.
- Keeps complete records and documentation of all such activities performed by the microbiology department.
- Contributes, along with other managers in hiring staff.
- Coordinates and supervises communication from the microbiology department with other employees, management, customers, and vendors.
- Supervises the maintenance of a clean and safe work environment.
- Supervises compliance with all safety requirements and company policies.
- Manages and supervises sample/media disposal related to microbiology lab operation.
- Trains and qualifies staff for microbiology testing.
- Participates in management meetings and activities.
- Supervises and coordinates microbiology department activities regarding certification procedures.
- B.S. Degree in science related field.
- B.S. Degree in Microbiology preferred.
- 2-4 years laboratory experience preferred.
- Strong computer skills, especially with spreadsheets
- Organized and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Sustained levels of high performance.
- Experience with ELISA preferred
