Description

Our client, a well-respected litigation firm located in downtown Toronto, is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Insurance Defence Legal Assistant to join their dynamic team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced legal assistant with a background in insurance defence to contribute to a busy and collaborative legal environment.

 

In this role, you will provide comprehensive administrative and legal support to lawyers and law clerks, assisting in the management of insurance defence files from intake to resolution. You will be responsible for drafting legal documents, coordinating schedules, managing documentation, and ensuring timely and accurate communication with clients, courts, and legal professionals.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and manage lawyers' calendars and ensure all deadlines and appointments are tracked accurately
  • Schedule Examinations for Discovery, interpreters, mediations, etc., and other key meetings
  • File and serve court documents through on-line court portal
  • Draft, format, proofread, and prepare correspondence, pleadings, motion records, affidavits, mediation memos, and other legal documents
  • Obtain dismissal Orders and/or notice of discontinuance
  • Assist in the preparation of trial and arbitration materials
  • Manage physical and electronic legal files throughout all stages of the litigation process
  • Support in preparing and sending invoices
  • Maintain organized document management systems and ensure all documents are up to date
  • Use legal software effectively for case management and document preparation
  • Open and close legal files in accordance with firm procedures
  • Handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion
  • Provide additional administrative support as needed

 

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in Civil Insurance Defence Litigation in a legal assistant or similar capacity
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficient in various computer applications such as PC Law, Microsoft Office Suite, Primafact, NetDocuments and Adobe, and legal document management systems
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a collaborative team
  • Demonstrated initiative, problem-solving skills, and a proactive attitude
  • Ability to manage large volumes of documentation with professionalism and efficiency
  • Commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality and professionalism
