Description
Kelly® Engineering is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for a temp-to-hire opportunity with a leading manufacturer of custom training components used in military and commercial flight simulators. If you're passionate about hands-on mechanical design and thrive in a collaborative, project-driven environment, this role offers the chance to bring high-fidelity flight simulation systems to life.
Overview
This company, based in Euless, TX, designs and manufactures precision training components for cockpit simulators used worldwide. Their products—ranging from instrument gauges to control panels and display assemblies—support both commercial aviation and military flight training systems.
The Mechanical Design Engineer will focus on mechanical design and assembly. You'll take customer specifications (and sometimes only photos) and translate them into fully functional, manufacturable mechanical assemblies using SolidWorks 2021. This is a hands-on, custom-design environment where every project is unique.
Responsibilities:
- Design new and custom mechanical assemblies, enclosures, and components for flight simulator systems.
- Collaborate with electrical engineers to ensure fitment and integration of PCBs, wiring, and other components.
- Interpret customer specifications, blueprints, or reference imagery to create accurate models and drawings.
- Use SolidWorks 2021 to create detailed part, assembly, and drawing files.
- Apply knowledge of sheet metal, machined parts, and structural design principles to ensure manufacturability.
- Support production and service teams by resolving design-related issues and maintaining documentation.
- Reverse-engineer and improve existing designs where needed.
- Manage multiple active design projects in a fast-paced, project-based setting.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of hands-on mechanical design experience in a custom or low-volume manufacturing environment.
- Proficient in SolidWorks 2021; AutoCAD experience for artwork overlays preferred.
- Strong understanding of mechanical assembly, fit/form/function, and design for manufacturability.
- Experience with sheet metal, machined parts, or small to mid-size structures.
- Excellent collaboration skills with electrical, production, and service teams.
- Self-directed and resourceful; able to work independently with limited specs.
- U.S. citizenship required.
