Job Opportunity: Mechanical Engineer II
Location: ONSITE in Lincolnshire, IL
Duration: 7 Months with possible extension
Pay: $45-47/hr.
Job summary:
- Our client is seeking a skilled and proactive Mechanical Engineer Level II to join their Sustaining Engineering group.
- This role requires collaboration within a dynamic team environment and will focus on maintaining and enhancing existing printer product lines, ensuring they continue to meet the high standards and evolving needs of our customers.
- Support Existing Products:
- Investigate and resolve mechanical issues in current production and products in the field.
- Analyze root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Design Improvements:
- Recommend and implement design enhancements to improve product reliability, manufacturability, and cost-efficiency.
- Conduct tolerance stack-ups and design for manufacturability (DFM) analysis.
- Prepare and process Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
- Maintain and update product documentation including drawings, BOMs, and CAD models.
- Work closely with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and customer service teams to address technical issues.
- Participate in design reviews, failure investigations, and continuous improvement projects.
- Develop and execute test protocols for component and system validation.
- Evaluate returned product failures and provide detailed reports with proposed solutions.
- Collaborate with suppliers to resolve mechanical part issues and improve part quality.
- Review and approve supplier drawing changes and deviations as needed.
- Ensure product compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations, and internal requirements.
- Support documentation and testing for agency certifications (e.g., UL, CE).
- Assist in sustaining projects from initiation through release.
- Manage small-to-medium projects or portions of larger projects independently with moderate supervision.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
- 2+ years of experience in mechanical design, manufacturing support, or sustaining engineering.
- Hands-on experience with electromechanical systems or products involving moving parts.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, or similar).
- Working knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawing standards.
- Engineering Change Process:
- Experience creating and processing Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), Bills of Materials (BOMs), and design documentation.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical failures and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Familiarity with root cause analysis tools such as 5 Whys, Fishbone diagrams, or FMEA.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical engineering, manufacturing, quality, and procurement.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Experience using Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems (e.g., Windchill, Arena, Agile).
- Experience supporting or designing printers, copiers, or other electromechanical office equipment.
- Familiarity with high-volume manufacturing and injection-molded plastic parts.
- Experience developing and executing mechanical test plans and validation protocols.
- Hands-on experience with lab testing, fixture design, or thermal and vibration testing.
- Background in cost reduction, reliability improvement, or vendor quality improvement projects. Experience working directly with suppliers to resolve part issues and approve alternate components.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Kaizen methodologies is a plus
- Familiarity with compliance standards such as RoHS, REACH, or UL certifications relevant to printers or electronic equipment.
