Description

We are currently seeking a Temporary Payroll Specialist in Algonquin, IL, a Payroll Specialist is a full-time position in the Finance Department responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for all employees. As of November 2025, the hourly rate for new DESPA members is

Salary: $21.93/hr
Duration: temporary/ Contract
Location: Algonquin, IL 100% on site
Hours: Monday – Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm
 
Primary responsibilities

  • Payroll processing: Handle the day-to-day functions of the payroll system, which includes calculating wages, entering timesheets, and processing commissions and deductions.
  • Systems: ADP experience or similar payroll processing system
  • Benefits administration: Process employee benefits, such as health insurance, and ensure that correct deductions are being made.
  • Record maintenance: Maintain accurate records of all payroll transactions, including employee earnings, taxes, and deductions.
  • Tax compliance: Calculate and make on-time payments for all payroll-related taxes at the federal and state levels, including filing required tax reports.
  • Employee support: Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, benefits, and taxes.
  • Account reconciliation: Assist with balancing accrued payroll records to the general ledger accounts on a monthly basis. 
Qualifications and skills
  • Education and experience: A Bachelor's degree or 3–5 years of experience in an office environment is required.
  • Attention to detail: The role requires strong organizational skills, accuracy in data entry, and the ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive employee information.
  • Knowledge: Expertise in payroll and accounting principles is needed.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for answering employee questions.
  • Software proficiency: Experience with Human Resources Management Systems (HRMS) and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite are required.
