Description

Kelly is currently seeking an experienced Process Engineer for a short-term contract! The ideal person will be located in the Houston area and have the ability to travel to Louisiana a few times throughout the project.

A technology operator wishes to modify their existing facility to produce two new co-products along with the current final products.  The process engineer will be tasked with performing a detailed feasibility study (DFS) for this potential project, evaluating the existing facility for process changes necessary to produce these new co-products at the desired product specification while maintaining the existing products on-specification.

Activities and deliverables contained within this DFS include:

  • Modification of an existing (or creation of a new) Aspen Plus V10 process simulation to match the current mode of operation by the technology operator (referencing existing process flow diagrams, heat and mass balances, process and analytical data provided by the technology operator).
  • Revision of the initially developed process simulation to achieve the desired process changes as requested by the technology operator.
  • Comparative evaluation of the existing equipment design files (approximately 20 pressure changers, 20 heat exchangers, five distillation columns, two reactors, and 15 other pressure vessels) with the process simulation results to identify any existing equipment that requires revision or replacement.
  • Development of a sized equipment list, including any new or revised equipment.
  • Comparative flare load evaluation relative to the existing case (to be provided by process operator).
  • Creation of a process description, particularly for portions of the plant that have new or updated equipment.
  • Development of a limited mass balance around one of the distillation columns.
  • Creation of a new block flow diagram and/or process flow diagram that includes all major pieces of equipment and major process flows.
  • A summary of resultant changes to production rates, utility consumption, liquid effluents and process vents relative to the base (existing) case.
  • Development of a rolled-up capital investment estimate.
  • Estimation of the required plot space for the new equipment items.
  • Using the existing plant layout, develop a proposed plot plan to incorporate any new equipment items into the existing facility.
  • Provide a written Detailed Feasibility Study Technical Report including all the above required deliverables of the study.

Qualifications
  • Process Engineering background.
  • Process modeling and simulation experience.
  • Experience modifying plants.
  • Ability to travel to St. Charles, Louisiana several times throughout contract period.
  • Familiarity with ASPEN.
