Protein Engineering Research Associate

$80-100k

Schedule: 
Monday-Friday, standard working hours
 
Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement strategies for protein mutagenesis to enhance or modify protein function.
  • Perform site-directed mutagenesis and other molecular biology techniques to introduce mutations.
  • Optimize protein expression in various systems such as E. coli, yeast, or mammalian cells.
  • Purify and characterize proteins using techniques such as chromatography, SDS-PAGE, and mass spectrometry.
  • Conduct high-throughput screening of protein variants to identify those with desired properties.
  • Analyze protein structure and function to guide the design of future mutations.
  • Utilize computational tools to model protein structures and predict the impact of mutations.
  • Develop and perform assays to assess protein stability, activity, and other functional properties.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate protein engineering efforts into broader project goals.
  • Document experimental procedures and results meticulously in laboratory notebooks and digital records.
  • Prepare reports and presentations summarizing findings for internal stakeholders and external collaborators.
  • Stay current with scientific literature to integrate new methods and technologies into research projects.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize protocols to improve experimental outcomes.
  • Collaborate with team members to analyze data, interpret results, and prepare research reports.

Qualifications:
  • BS/MS degree in a relevant field and a minimum of 2 years of industry experience
  • Proficient in mammalian cell culture
  • Proficiency in molecular biology, gene editing, DNA library prep, next-generation sequencing (NGS), qPCR, flow cytometry and analysis
  • Hands-on experience with site-directed mutagenesis and other molecular cloning techniques.
  • Proficiency in protein expression systems such as E. coli, yeast, or mammalian cells.
  • Experience with protein purification techniques, including chromatography and centrifugation.
  • Knowledge of protein characterization methods such as SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, and mass spectrometry.
  • Familiarity with high-throughput screening techniques to assess protein properties.
  • Understanding of protein structure and function and the ability to predict the effects of mutations.
  • Experience with computational tools for protein modeling and analysis (e.g., PyMOL, Rosetta, or Chimera).
  • Proficiency in using analytical techniques such as spectroscopy (UV-Vis, fluorescence) and calorimetry.
