Job Title: Quality Technician 
Rate of Pay: $17+DOE
Schedule: 1st shift
Location: Kirkville, NY
  Job Summary:
The Quality Technician is responsible for assuring product conformance within an assigned Value Stream, with a strong focus on defect prevention rather than detection. This role supports new product and process launches, performs quality planning and inspections, and collaborates closely with Production, Engineering, and Customer Quality teams to ensure compliance with customer, ISO, and internal quality standards. Essential Functions:

  • Ensure product conformance within the assigned Value Stream, emphasizing prevention-based quality practices.
  • Support new products and process introductions; attend PECT meetings as required.
  • Perform PPAP activities, including First Article Inspections (FAIs), Control Plans, FMEAs, and Process Flow Diagrams.
  • Provide technical support for capability studies and Gage R&R studies.
  • Perform first-piece inspections or verifications as required.
  • Assemble and maintain job package books for production; ensure quality files are accurate and complete.
  • Configure and maintain SPC using SPC software; analyze and interpret results.
  • Identify, segregate, and quarantine suspect or nonconforming product.
  • Participate in customer corrective action identification and root cause analysis.
  • Support MRB and Internal Corrective Action investigations through documentation and follow-up.
  • Provide customer support through data analysis, trending, and reporting as directed.
  • Train machine operators on blueprint interpretation, proper gauging techniques, SPC usage, inspection processes, process sheets, and the two-pan system.
  • Interface closely with Production, Quality, Engineering, and customer Quality or Production departments on quality-related issues.
  • Make quality-related decisions in accordance with customer requirements and ISO standards.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Initiate and support in-process and final audit training with department auditors to ensure adherence to quality standards on the production floor.
  • Audit parts returned from outside processing operations and approve movement to the next operation or quarantine as necessary.
  • Prepare formal inspection and sort instructions for sorting activities when required.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and cost-reduction efforts.
  • Assist Production with the use and application of special gauging equipment.
  • Perform Quality System audits and assist the Quality Engineer as directed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment.
  • Perform daily safety inspections on equipment (e.g., pallet jacks) and follow proper lifting techniques.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English; basic math skills and a foundational understanding of machining processes.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret blueprints, inspection plans, and work instructions.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize in a changing environment; excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in the use, interpretation, and training of others on precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, comparators, and special gauges.
Education, Training, and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Formal metrology training or equivalent on-the-job training preferred
  • 1–3 years of experience using precision measuring instruments in a similar industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
