R&D Product Development Manager
Kelly® Science & Clinical is seeking an R&D Product Development Manager for a direct-hire position at a cutting-edge client in San Fernando, CA. Salary: $90,000–$120,000
Schedule: Monday–Friday, Full-Time, On-Site Overview
This client is an industry-leading company specializing in custom research studies for biotech and diagnostics manufacturers. They are known for executing complex, non-standard studies in a highly adaptable and rigorous lab environment. In this role, you will lead product development efforts, manage R&D staff, and oversee the creation and improvement of juice concentrates, flavor-based products, and beverage bases. You will also ensure compliance with SQF standards and collaborate cross-functionally to support lab scalability and performance. Responsibilities:
- Manage and oversee all product development activities within the department
- Independently develop new and existing products per customer or internal requirements
- Supervise and support R&D Product Development Chemists and Lab Technicians
- Assess feasibility of projects based on production capacity, technology, and equipment
- Perform cost analysis and recommend selling prices for developed products
- Ensure documentation of Master Formulas and compounding instructions
- Review and approve product specification sheets
- Communicate with customer technical staff to ensure product requirements are met
- Ensure all developed products meet SQF (Safe Quality Food) standards
- Provide technical assistance to customers and Client Sales Staff
- Offer on-site support for first-time productions and troubleshooting
- Monitor lab-to-production transitions to ensure product quality
- Perform other duties and special projects as required
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Food Science Technology, Nutrition, or related field
- Minimum 4 years of supervisory or management experience
- Demonstrated taste/aroma acuity
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and strong math skills (up to algebra)
- Effective written and verbal communication skills in English
- Ability to report to any Client facility as needed (primary location: San Fernando)
