Senior Food Scientist - Aurora, CO

Type: Direct Hire
Shift: 1st (M-F 8a-5p)
Salary: $75,000 to $90,000 annually, depending on experience, skills, and education.

Opportunity Overview:  We are looking for a Senior Food Scientist to join our team based in Aurora, CO. This individual will ensure new items are built and launched successfully, existing items are documented accurately, and act as a liaison between Culinary Team, Production, Sales, Finance, Quality Assurance, and Supply Chain. The Senior Food Scientist needs to understand business needs, design and execute tests, analyze data, draw conclusions, communicate results, and commercialize products. This role involves driving technical projects to meet business initiatives, focusing on new product development, quality improvement, and cost improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and implement innovative, practical applications and modification of ingredients, formulations, and processes.
  • Provide project leadership in the development and commercialization of new products, product improvement, and cost savings.
  • Manage multiple interdisciplinary projects, set direction, develop and implement plans, organize project teams, and coordinate resources to achieve goals.
  • Design and execute experiments, analyze and interpret data to make sound technical recommendations for specific projects.
  • Provide and communicate technical and business risk assessments.
  • Develop process specifications, ensuring training and transfer of specification knowledge to QA and Operations.
  • Research and gain thorough knowledge of emerging technologies in product and ingredient technologies.
  • Support Operations and QA in resolving ingredient, formula, and process issues and manage product/process changes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on implementing new products, new equipment, or new processes.
  • Provide formula and process specifications, working with the culinary team to translate these into on-floor processes and support smooth rollouts of new products, equipment, and/or processes.
  • Support process design and review on new capability expansion, cost enhancement, and process improvement opportunities.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the new product development process, improve our win rate, reduce costs, improve product scale-up, and expedite speed to market.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Food Science/Food Engineering with a strong functional Baking Science background.
  • Minimum 5 years of bakery/food development/manufacturing experience.
  • Experience in baking, pastry arts, R&D, and Food/Baking Science.
  • Proven track record of leading new products from concept through prototyping and commercialization within a manufacturing environment.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in recipe/formulation and raw materials.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint) and ERP systems.
  • Strong bench work skills with the ability to execute solutions rapidly (DOE).
  • Self-directed with initiative, responsible for managing own projects and meeting/exceeding timelines.
  • Willingness to work off-hours or extended periods during product scale-ups.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time.
