Sr. Quality Engineer (West Chester, PA) Our client, a leading manufacturer of precision-forged metal components used in critical applications for the U.S. Navy, aerospace, power generation (and much more….) is currently hiring a Sr. Quality Engineer. This is the role for you-   The Senior Quality Engineer plays a critical role in supporting the Quality Manager in establishing, maintaining, and continuously improving the organization's quality management system. This position requires expertise in nondestructive testing methodologies, naval specifications compliance, and quality system management. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in developing quality procedures, conducting audits, and ensuring adherence to ISO, NADCAP, Electric Boat, and NAVSEA specifications.   Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Quality Systems Management- Develop, maintain, and improve ISO 9001 and NADCAP quality management systems. Create and implement quality procedures, work instructions, and metallurgical specifications. Conduct internal and external quality audits to ensure compliance with industry and customer standards. Perform customer contract reviews and ensure all quality requirements are captured and implemented. Provide training to personnel on quality-related procedures and standards.   Naval & Defense Specifications Compliance- Interpret and implement Electric Boat and NAVSEA specifications and requirements. Review and analyze customer specifications including military (MIL), aerospace (AMS), and industry standards (ASTM, ASME). Ensure compliance with naval shipbuilding quality requirements throughout manufacturing processes. Maintain current knowledge of changes to Electric Boat and NAVSEA specifications.   Nondestructive Testing (NDT) & Material Control- Oversee nondestructive examination processes and ensure compliance with applicable standards. Review and approve NDT procedures and ensure proper implementation. Approve raw material receipts and verify material certifications against specifications. Review purchase orders to vendors to validate required specification pass-down information. Analyze and interpret mill test reports to optimize manufacturing processes. Provide final review and approval of Certified Material Test Reports (CMTRs).   Pyrometry & Heat Treatment- Maintain expertise in AMS 2750E pyrometry requirements. Review and approve heat treatment procedures and temperature uniformity surveys. Ensure proper calibration and maintenance of heat treatment instrumentation.   Nonconformance & Continuous Improvement- Investigate and resolve customer complaints through systematic root cause analysis. Prepare and submit Nonconformance Material Reports (NCMRs) to customers for approval and disposition. Administer nonconformance documentation and corrective action processes. Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality performance. Analyze quality metrics and trends to identify improvement opportunities.   Technical Support & Communication- Provide technical support for manufacturing engineering requirements. Collaborate with customers on procedure submissions, approvals, and technical matters. Communicate effectively with customers regarding quality issues and resolutions. Maintain working knowledge of manufacturing operations including forging, CNC machining, and manual machining. Direct and coordinate quality personnel activities as required.   Documentation & Compliance- Conduct final reviews of quality documentation packages. Ensure proper maintenance of quality records and traceability documentation. Interpret technical blueprints, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and machining drawings   Qualifications: Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field preferred.  Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Minimum 5 years of quality engineering experience in a similar manufacturing environment.  Background in one or more of the following industries: Defense and Military Supply Chain, Precision Forging, Machining, Heavy Metals Manufacturing,  Shipbuilding, Marine Engineering,  Nuclear, Energy, Pressure Vessel Manufacturing,  Aerospace and Aviation or Defense Subcontractors / Tier 1/2 Suppliers. Experience with interoperability and durability in harsh marine environments (requirements for fabrication, inspection, quality assurance, installation, and lifecycle support, welding, brazing, forging techniques, heat treatment).    Experience with nondestructive testing methods and applications. Skilled in NAVSEA, MIL-STD, or ASME standards; hands-on with NDT, inspection, root cause analysis, and documentation for defense/military forgings or machined components. Fluent with ISO9001, AS9100, or ISO/TS standards, plus customer and regulatory audits. Proven experience with ISO 9001 and NADCAP quality management systems. Expertise in metallurgy, forging processes, and heat treatment operations. Thorough knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). Familiarity with AMS 2750E pyrometry requirements.   Preferred: Demonstrated knowledge of Electric Boat and/or NAVSEA specifications a strong plus. Understanding of, or ability to quickly learn technical and quality standards published by the United States Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), which oversees engineering, design, procurement, and maintenance of U.S. Navy ships and related systems crucial (shipbuilding, submarine systems, combat systems, electronics, shipboard machinery, materials, coatings, packaging, and testing; MIL-STD (military standards), drawings, instructions, technical manuals, or engineering specifications related , etc.). Proficiency in interpreting military (MIL-SPEC), aerospace (AMS), and industry specifications (ASTM, ASME). Understanding of naval shipbuilding quality requirements.   Certifications & Training: AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality systems training. Quality systems auditing certifications preferred (Internal Auditor, Lead Auditor). NDT Level II certification preferred. Training in applicable military and naval specifications. Ability to obtain secret clearance.
